EXELSIOR College - Lawsuit

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Directly contacted Board of Nursing in NY where they are based to smash some things I have been reading (accredited or not, back and forth). Right after I mentioned the school I was told, "Please, please do not waste your money. There is a lawsuit filed by the attorney general. Again, please do not spend money on this school. That is all I can say at this moment."

Just trying to let everyone know. Still searching for an online associates degree to get me started in nursing. For more questions contact 518.474.3817, Ext. 120

What I would like to read is the story behind the biggie lawsuit from about 15 years ago that was the famous lawsuit of all lawsuits regarding a former student and EC. All I know was that you used to be able to find very valuable info online that originated with that student and now you can't find a thing. Everything has been scrubbed from the internet. I think it is a bad commentary on the judiciary system that people who have a vested interest in the facts/findings of the case are prevented from ever finding out what really happened and why. There are practical reasons for finding out this info, not just prurient interests.

For those who found EC to be the answer to their goal of becoming nurses, this is not welcome news. It is hurtful, and not in keeping with their own reality. For those whose involvement is nothing more than to cry wolf when the truth is that they were not prepared to succeed in this type of program, well, by any means....... And for those who may have been legitimately screwed over by EC, well, that happens more often than expected, in any type of program, and in many programs, as long as there are personnel with the ability to exert their power in a vengeful way. Such is life. You can't discredit an institution or dismantle it just because it isn't the best for everyone.

I am attending Excelsior College and so far I am very pleased. The only thing I don't like is that even if you can show your FAFSA has been approved, they won't hold a place in class until the financial aid office shows approval.

I only have 5 RN classes left and started my financial aid 2 months prior and was approved. I did make a mistake on my financial aid paperwork but it took so long for them to contact me and once corrected (same day I fixed it and faxed it) it still took them over three weeks. I had to turn down my classes once they were offered because my aid doesn't show approved. I had to go back on the waiting list and it didn't get back around to me. So I am having to sit out until spring 2015.

I think this policy should be changed. If I can show that my student loans were approved, a spot in my classes should have been held.

I am sure that everyone has worked with someone else who has finished another nursing program and everyone of them will have pros and cons, reports of threatened lawsuits and complaints about pass rates and how FA is handled etc etc etc EC works just as well as any other program, pass rates are comparable, complaints are in line with regular brick and mortar colleges etc etc etc No program is perfect, you just have to do what is right for you.

odd that this is your one and only post.

First thing I felt the need the to post. Is there an appropriate first post I should've known about? Just someone searching for online courses to get started since me and my husband travel alot and it's been tough.

Bravo!! Very mature and calm response to the previous poster. So many people on these threads are quick to take offense to another's comments and before you know it, the moderators have to shut the thread down. Kudos to you!

Sometimes an introduction is nice. :) But we tend to see some one-post wonders around here, probably the cause of Ulana's skepticism.

Are you an LPN looking for a bridge program, or are you looking for a prelicensure route to ADN?

Sorry to offend but like lisa said it happens all the time, the one time posters seem to just want to stir the pot. EC is not for everyone but like any other legitimate program, you get out of it what you put in to it. No one is gonna hold your hand, but you can get great advice and answers to questions from the wonderful nurses/medics/rts who have done the program on this site.

The lawsuit states a bunch of items that were general knowledge for anyone with an inclination to inquire and almost all of the items they are complaining about are explained in the nursing catalog and other documents that the college sends you before you even start.

There are many threads describing the EC experience. Start with the EC FAQ threads.
