Excuses for Missing Work

How about a list of wierd excuses for not coming to work?

My favorite: I can't come in today, I'm having vision problems. I just don't see myself working.

I'd tell my nurse manager & wear gloves & mask to try to minimize contact. Also try telling your scheduler your problem & see what can be worked out. Good luck & Merry Xmas!

We had a nurse call in sick with the flu (she's also a friend). We called her that afternoon to see how she was feeling and she told us better. I asked if she thought she would work the next day and she told me she had to ask her husband. She seriously would let her husband decide if she should call in sick or not.

We also had a nurse manager who went out of town. The day she was due back she called and said her daughter was just diagnosed with leukemia. She called everyday and within 5 days she told us her daughter passed away. (her daughter was 20 years old) We did a little detective work and found her daughters phone number. We called her number and the daughter answered the phone. We asked if she'd been sick. She told us she was feeling fine, had a sinus infection a few days ago. Come to find out the manager had met a man online and was with him. She was fired and we never heard from her again.

That is aweful to use that your daughter died as an excuse to get out of going to work.

We had an MA call in because her tongue piercing was too swollen and she couldn't talk. Umm didn't you just call in?

What about nurses that come to work and want to go home sick almost every night! We have a nurse that will drink something hot and make her temp go up or eat a huge meal with a reg. pepsie (she is diabetic) and make her blood sugar go up to 400 so she gets nauseous and throws up so she can home. Or she c/o aches and pains to where she covers up with a blanket and passes her meds in a w/c so I (the supervisor) will feel sorry for her and offer to take over for her so she can home?

Had a nurse call in because she could not get her car out of the driveway d/t snow.....Too bad the snowstorm went around us and we did not get even a dusting... Told the nurse to open her blinds...it DID NOT SNOW.. :nono: see you at 7!!! :lol2:

In my younger days, I decided that it would be a good idea to have my tough pierced...I had a singing exam a couple of days later and my tongue was, well, not at its best. I went to the exam, mentally prepared...but thought I would try asking to postpone the exam until my tongue was back to its original size. The prof was very nice, and said, "well, under normal circumstances I would permit the postponement, but this is pretty much self-inflicted." I sang the exam, did fine and got an A in the course.

Pepperann - She was passing her meds in a WC??!:rolleyes: That pretty much takes the cake.

Sounds like she's trying to pass all her work on to someone else while still collecting the paycheck. I've known people like that.

I was working as a CNA in a LTC facility in Phoenix AZ. I was picking up a coworker and got caught in a flash flood.When I called my supervisor I knew she didnt believe me,and wrote me up.Two days later I brought in pictures from the scene and made her eat her words.....

My absolute favorite from another nurse: "I think I have a sore throat" Wow. You think? You don't know? That's the kind of statement that instills confidence in a nurse's abilities!

The kicker of it was that management actually accepted that excuse!!!
