Exclude for vomiting

How do you exclude for vomiting? Our state guidelines say to consider exclusion for vomiting more than once in 24 hours. The nurse I work with tends to exclude after one episode of vomiting. This is for high school, BTW. Input appreciated!

My policy for return is generally 24 hour vomit free but there are exceptions. If you go home @ 11:00 after vomiting, then take a nap, eat a hearty dinner and breakfast and are ready to go in the morning without another episode of vomiting and no other signs of being sick, I'm good with you coming back. But you can't skip lunch and dinner, sleep 15 hours, wake up and eat 1/2 an english muffin on the way to school and come back. That's not going to cut it for me.

Our handbook says 24 hours, but there is a nursing discretion component.

I don't have to worry about excluding. I'm in a high school too, and my student's parents take care of that for me. The kids call their parents from their cell phones before they even come to my clinic and say they vomited in the bathroom (unwitnessed of course), and mommy always lets the little darlings go home, or will rush to save them from uhum dying at school... sigh....

No other episode of emesis = return to school.

Continues with emesis = stay home.

My most annoying problem is nausea. I know it can be miserable, however convincing MS students they will either get better or throw up is a challenge.

In the student planner we have rules about that, however they are not enforced. The attendance clerk generally tells them this is not acceptable. We still get at least 5/week.

We get at least 5 a day. Our students can use their cell phones whenever and whereever they want. They sit in class with their earbuds in listening to music. How are they learning?? We are not permitted to keep the children from Mommy or Daddy. if they want them to go home we have to let them.
