ok... i'm worried about the online lpn-rn programs. could someone please tell me if this school is reputable and if it is really recognized. just seems like a lot of money to waste if i can't use it... I live in Virginia ..

I got my LVN in Texas and lots of the RN's there went through the Excelsior program when it was Regents. Now I'm in Arkansas and our state board of nursing even says that they accept Excelsior on their web site. Also checked into the Nurse Practitioner programs at the Universities here in the state and they all accept the BSN from Excelsior for admittance into the Master of Nursing/Nurse Practitioner programs.

Before you do anything, check with someone at your BON. I sent in an e-mail to my BON and had a response the next day.

Excelsior is not the easiest program nor is it the least expensive, but it is certainly the most flexible and if you have a family and work, it is the way to go.

I agree to confirm with your BON prior to enrollment, but it has worked out great for me.

Ditto. I know several other people in other states who it has worked out real well for as well.

it is reputable. even harvard takes their transfer classes.

I checked with the University of Arkansas Medical and Science division and they accept Excelsior. I can transfer with the AAS for BSN or I can transfer the BSN for graduate school Nurse Practitioner.

I'm living proof Excelsior is everything they say they are.

I'm very grateful for Excelsior. Without their program I would not have been able to have the opportunity to go back to school with all the work and family responsibilities I have.

I have also met many graduates of Excelsior working in all different areas of nursing. There are a lot of us around!

Recognized MOST places (BOOOOO California BOOOO), others have stipulations. I live on the state line between Nebraska and Kansas. I live on the Nebraska side but can throw a rock off my back deck and it will land in Kansas. I work in both states. Nebraska takes the EC program without restrictions, Kansas requires that I work as an RN in another state for 1000hrs or so first, then they will give it to me by endorsment.

The Hospital in Nebraska that I work in is paying half of my testing fees for EC but I will owe then about 3-4yrs of service. One of the Charge Nurses here is an EC grad as well.

Excelsior yes. Rue, College Network NO. You can search and find out more details, but basically going via Rue or CN, you are still going thru Excelsior but paying a higher price. Just dont sign any contracts.

Do you have all your pre reqs? I was accepted into 2 local CC and turned them down and have decided to go via EC because I can be a RN in 6 months compared to one year. I also plan on getting my BSN later.

OK, Questions...

I am on the verge of CN or EC. I had a CN "salesman" come out and show me all of the terms and small print. I didn't sign with them simply because I've not done all of my homework. He says,

CN Fee $5,705 to pay CN fee, book fees, bunches of other test preps etc.

Then your testing site fees (the classes I need) would be $2245

Enroll in EC at NC3 and pay them $3,465 for their application, enrollment, literacy course, clinical fee, and graduation fee. Total $11,495.

Now, I went to EC and found that my total would be almost $7,000 for all of their fees and my testing fees. That does not include books or any other study material. THEN, I also read they charge $275 per credit hour. That would be $5,500 more just for 20 credit horuse (which I need many more then that) AND that is not counting book fees. That would be approx $12,500 plus who knows how much in book fees???

Any advice on this? People say CN is so much more, but I am not seeing it. HELP.......... I want to get started....lol :lol_hitti:
