Excelsior RT to RN

Anyone recently done or starting excelsior college RT to RN program?

Hello-

I am and RT and am just starting the program. Health and Safety will be my first test.

I am excited to do the program, but I am a bit worried about not having any clinicals.

I plan to take Health safety July 27 thus I have not cracked the book open lol I am extremely concerned about no clinicals but being an RT 5 years I feel it's worth a good try.

Same here I have been an RT for 5 years and now looking to start through excelsior soon. I have not put the ball into action yet but was it easy to get started?

I have not gotten started no more than submittig my application for transcript review and I looked online for different study material but I plan to take the first two exams before I enroll bye October 1, 2012

This program is a great option for you. I have been a therapist for 8 years and have completed the first 5 exams. Don't worry about clinicals at this point. There are seminars available to teach you all the required skills.

If you are really motivated, you can complete this program rather quickly.

Don't forget about the excelsior college nursing forum you can google I ternet to find it.

Did you do the self study on your own through excelsior with the study guide or did you use a third party study course like RUE or MOORE. Does anyone know about them I did not want to spend the extra money if I didn't need to. Any info is appreciated... Thanks!

DON'T use RUE!!!!! I've been an RT for 3 years and I'm doing the program now. I'm done with all the theory courses and doing the FCCA now. I unfortunately went with rue and they are a huge waste of time and a HUGE waste of money!! There is nothing you can't learn doing the RUE prep hat you can't just do directly through Excelsior self study, Exam Content Guides, and practice tests. And, you probably can do it faster!

Thanks so much for that you really helped me make my decision a little easier :) Was the excelsior practice exams helpful? Were they close to the actual exam? I unfortunately have to take all my sciences over again since I have been out of school for more than 5 years:( Can't wait to get to the nursing part. Being a RT did you find the nursing classes to be easy or hard? Thanks for your input again and GOOD LUCK!!!

Hey, Mike... your sciences will still be good ***IF*** you enroll before Oct 1! If you haven't yet applied, do so ASAP! And, like RTsoonRN said... no need to use 3rd party publishing companies (Rue, The College Network, etc..) In fact, Excelsior warns against them on their site!

Good luck!

I can't answer that entire question, ( academic honesty policy) but yes the practice exams are INVALUABLE!! That depends on your strengths, I found some parts easier ( pulmonary, cardiac ), some (metabolic, endocrine, etc) you may find more difficult, it just depends on your strengths.
