You will most likely have to have your RN in the state in which you practice and subsequently have clinicals. If you are going to be working at the VA with a license other than Florida's, then you will most likely have to do clinicals in that other state that you are licensed in.
Otherwise, there are RNs that come out of EC that do go on to become NPs. Good luck!
i have the utmb site bookmarked but haven't looked at it. i didn't realize they had the geri np program. very cool. thanks
i just want to wish you luck. i will graduate ec next spring and then i will get my bsn starting next fall at utmb. then i will apply and then start their online geri np program...so i know you can do it too...

texas tech is in lubbock .. 2 semesters 15 hours a piece. but from what i see from the catalog the courses are like 7 weeks and are staggered so you wont have all 15 hours at once (i think).. tuition is cheaper than i thought....

It depends on what program you are planning on going to. Alot of them have their clinicals at the end of the program. FSMFN is primarily that way. But you could get some prereqs out of the way the first year you work as an RN, I mean the first year you work as a nurse (I am assuming you are a paramedic) you will be learning so much your head will spin. So even if you did no classes that first year, it would be a full year. I am planning on attending FSMFN bridge program and becoming a CNM. I wish you luck, anyone can achieve their dream if the are persistant.
I have been calling colleges in my area. Tampa. And none of them will take credits from Excelsior. I wanted to obtain my ADN from excelsior then my BSN from St Pete College and possibly go on to NP ot physcian asst. HAs any one out there actually been able to do this in the last year or two????

I have a question maybe others have done this already.
I plan to enroll in Excelsior to obtain my RN degree, but I want to continue my studies to get a nurse practitioner ARNP in the future.
I live in florida and I know I have to work 2 yrs outside FL as an RN or in a VA hospital. I will probably try to work in a VA hospital in FL for 2 yrs.
My question is can I go to school in FL while working in VA hospital to get my NP license. Either online or going to school in florida either FIU or Nova University with just my RN degree from Excelsior?
Has any graduates out there from Excelsior gotten their ARNP degree and how did they do it online of did they go to school?
Please Help.
