Hi--I'm a nursing student in Texas, and just enrolled at EC today. (I was surprised that it was harder to get them to take my money than the public colleges around here!) I found out about EC from a coworker who started last April and is getting ready for his CPNE. He was an Army medic and liked how much they gave him credit for what he did in the military. I liked that they were willing to look at my transcript from my school of nursing and give me a yea or nay (they said, yea, of course), so I didn't have to go ahead and enroll here while waiting for them to formally do their thing. Also, I checked with the state of NY about Excelsior's pass rate for the NCLEX. They sent me about 10 lbs of paper (no joke) which was all the statistics of NY schools, compared to the overall scores for other states, for about five years. EC students apparently do very very well.

There are several of us here at Allnurses who are successful Excelsior grads. Please take the time to search the previous threads on Distance Learning and/or Excelsior... there's a wealth of info for you in these posts !

Enjoy the journey and best of luck ! :)

How long did it take after you enrolled and sent your money for them to let you know about your transcripts? I have been waiting since early Sept.

I called them before I sent them any money at all, not even the app fee. They had me send them a copy of my nursing school transcript and a copy of the course description from the college catalog. In less than 2 days I got the informal "OK" which was enough for me to cancel my enrollment in my other school. I filed my application and paid my $60 app fee on or about 8/30. Then I ordered my formal transcripts sent from each school I had attended, on or about 9/10. Most got there in days, one took more than four weeks. When the last one got there on or about 10/10, they started the review process, which took about 3-1/2 weeks. I kept trying to enroll, but the system wouldn't let me (transcript review not completed--they would not accept my money!). Finally on the 2nd (?) which was a Sunday, the transcript review was completed and I was allowed to enroll (and pay the $825). I didn't know until Wednesday 11/5 when I got online and tried to enroll--and it worked! In the meantime, EC sent me the first two units' outlines so I could begin to study. They did this without charging me any tuition or anything. I haven't acted on it--waited to get enrolled and am now planning on getting ahold of some outlines, tapes or whatever, so I can just plow through everything. Then the wait begins again, because it's 4-6 months after the last exam before you get to take the CPNE.

Hope this helps. It should be any day now!

I only wish mine went that quickly. I was in contact with EC a while ago and they stated I would be accepted, but when I forwarded all of my stuff and my money...nothin... Waiting is the hardest thing for me to do. I am all about instant gratification! LMAO

hi although i do not live in missouri, i live very close to your state. i attend excelsior college and i have been very satisfied with the school and its policies. i am an lpn and i am due to take the cpne when my money stops running away from me. i am very opinionated and count it a pleasure to attend the school since it so different than the original nursing school which was and probably still is close to the devil. and i do not say the other word cause it is a bad word but face it traditional nursing schools and the instructors are generally close to the devil.

Excelsior College is an excellent choice for an LPN who wants to become an RN by distance. It is one of very few choices for an LPN unless you live or work in NJ. One of my supervisors was an EC grad. He was attending our community college and got the boot due to conflicts with his instructor. He completed EC and became an excellent nurse and supervisor. He is enrolled in a distance BSN program now. If you can not attend a campus based RN program EC may be the only way to become an RN so go for it and good luck Brenda. :balloons:
