Excelsior Grads - Where are they now?

Nursing Students Excelsior

EC grads,

Post your year of graduation and your specialty/specialties. I'll go first:

I've been a Level II/III Neonatal ICU nurse since graduation in January '06.

Update 5/2018: I've worked for a large NICU since 2009 in bedside and education roles, and I've been a clinical instructor. I finished EC's MS program in nursing education a couple of years ago. I was recently accepted to the Ph.D. program at a state university.

The hospital that I work at eliminated LPN's as of 2.1.10 the last hospital around these parts to do so. They demoted our 3 LPN's on our unit to CNA status. I am helping out 2 of these nurses in their EC program. They are great nurses already, just need to know how to do EC. This is the only way for them to get their RN, they have to work and support their families and brick and mortar schools here have long waiting lists. They are facing total layoff so EC was the best and likely only choice.

Specializes in Hospice.

Graduated in June. Started Hospice position two days ago after passing state boards

It's obvious from this thread that Excelsior produces excellent nurses. Too bad California & other states don't recognize the quality education that Excelsior has. I'm very envious of those who are able to atend Excelsior and are able to be licensed. Kudos to you all.

I am sure those states nursing schools pay a ton of money to lobbyists to shut them out. After all it is money out of their schools pockets.

Everywhere I read it says "everywhere except CA". I hate that, but oh well, I'm not willing to move out of state and work for 2 years and then return. Too much at stake here.

I graduated in 1988 when it was Regents. I first graduated from St. Vincent's Hospital Diploma Program (3 academic years + 2 summers) in 1981 so I was an RN with several years experience when I started the BSN program. I didn't really think I would learn anything but I did. In fact, I learned alot. I then obtained an MPH (Masters Public Health) from Columbia University.

1998 Grad, now an FNP in a Cardiology practice

did you have to take all the pre-req's over from RN to BSN, FNP? I can't get anything to transfer, feel like I have to stay at EC unless I want to start all over.

I loved reading through this. You all deserve a big pat on the back :)
