I'm an LPN in LA considering starting w/ Excelsior for my RN degree. Can anyone out there tell me about the clinicals to pass? I know u usually have to go to another state to do them, but are they extremely difficult??:typing

Hi, neighbor!

I just passed CPNE 7/25 at Albany Med Center, NY. It was a wonderful experience. My CA and CEs were awesome. It is a do-able test if you are prepared and confident of your skills. Read my post on EPN CPNE journals or PM me. I'll be happy to share the details with you.

Kind of new to this site...how do I find this "sticky" to read the info. :yldhdbng:

Right up at the top of the page.

CONGRATS!

I Passed mine there 8/1-8/3. I loved them.

Specializes in LTC (LPN-RN).
I am an Excelsior College graduate as of March 2008. The CPNE is what you are referring to and it is a 3 day TEST. They are there to see what you know, not to TEACH you anything. The first time pass rate is 64%, second time is 64% and the third time is 59%. After 3 attempts, you are dismissed from the program. I know that this seems impossible, but LOTS of us have done it. It is possible and for a lot of us, it is the quickest way to the pay for the job we are already mostly doing...that of RN. If I can help in any way, please PM me.

Good luck in your decision!

Does EC require you to do the transition course? Their site doesnt say.

EC does not have a transition course per se. There is a nursing exam with content on transition to RN, history of nursing, and such. Most take this exam as the last nursing exam prior to scheduling the CPNE. Look for it on the website and check out the study outline for content of the exam.

No I meant if one had to be done before you are admitted. I will haev to call...the credits in the transition can go toward the RN degree.

No. There is no such requirement. You come in with whatever coursework you have (they will credit what they choose) and your license to practice. That is it.

What's the name of the RN transition course? I need to take a transition course for one of the local JC's that isn't going to be offering the transition course this spring. Thanks

You will need to contact Excelsior College and talk to an advisor. I am fairly certain that only enrolled EC nursing students can take any of the nursing exams except for people in your case who have to get the approval ahead of time. By talking to the advisor, you can find out if the exam that EC offers will fulfill the requirements of your school. You will also probably have to get involved with an advisor from your school. No sense in taking an exam if it won't fit the bill at your school.

Thanks for the info, I will contact Excelsior.
