Excelsior: what is best study tool?

Published

I have heard alot of people raving over Lisa's notes but she graduated a few years ago and I don't know if they are outdated. I know excelsior has changed their program a bit and I want the most up to date study information but everyone says its not worth it to buy into college network or rue. so what do you guys use to study? and any advice to help me with excelsior would be much appreciated :loveya:

You should go to the distance learning forum on here and post your question. There are a lot of students with EC right now that could give you some good advice! I personally use the TCN study modules (college network) but that's because i got sucked into it before i realized i DIDNT have too! lol...i like them a lot though. you can check ebay for them though and get them for 20-50 each. (sure beats the 400 i paid apiece..lol).

Lots of great sticky threads on this site. Daytonite and VickyRN have alot of great tips and web links on the Nursing Student Assistance forum in the sticky threads. I used those links alot. I also watch YouTube for nursing skills. Otherwise, if I had particular trouble with something specific, post the question here.:yeah:Glad to help anytime.:D

The texts - buy them used at half.com or amazon.com - and the practice exams. Spend the money on them.

If you have $10 to spend on a class, always go for a textbook an edition or two older than the recommended book. I do have Lisa's notes, and while they are quite thorough, they are not the same as a textbook. I am incredibly distracted by the lack of punctuation and spelling errors that I can't pay attention to what is on the page. Sometimes I have no idea what she's saying, in fact. However, some people have done well with her notes. I'm a textbook and review book kind of gal. Throw in the EC practice tests and voila.

I second that! I am under the new curriculum and I bought some of her notes and IMO they are not updated to the new curriculum outline and I had a very hard time following the EC content guide with the information on her CD. I think her notes go along better with the old NC test. I really didn't use them and made my own notes. EC has added new sections to the new test and the information is not in her notes. Buy the recommended test and BUY the EC practice test! They are worth their weight in gold.

Just to add -- Lisa's CPNE DVD includes an area of care that was removed from the study guide about 2 editions back, so I'm thinking that one wasn't updated to match the latest CPNE study guide. Some of that stuff never changes, but some does change!

I don't understand how to go quickly from post to post easily or to go back and forth from all the different threads. I guess I will just have to figured it out over time.
