Excelsior for ASN, then traditional university for RN-BSN?

Nursing Students Online Learning

Has anyone done this without any problems with Excelsior credits being accepted and such?

Thanks!

Im pretty sure they have associations with specific colleges...

I didn't have a problem. Now granted, I'm doing my RN-BSN online, but it's through Chamberlain College, which also has a brick and mortar school.

My credits transferred to Graceland University. They didn't actually transfer until I reached a certain point in the program and then they gave me pass credits for their undergrad nursing classes. My EC "classes" aren't on my Graceland transcripts at all . I have heard that other schools do this as well.

This must have worked for an acquaintence, as she was able to progress to a masters degree.

My credits transferred into my BSN & grad school programs without so much as a hiccup.

Just curious, how do they show up on the academic record of the school you currently attend? As EC courses or your current program's equivalent course/s?

They showed up as EC courses, except for the CLEPs. All of the nursing courses were bundled together for the BSN program though (private accredited university), because we got so many credits for the ASN upon entry into the program.

For my current PhD program (public accredited university), they are listed as the same, but I didn't get any credits up front for the ASN or BSN.

Both programs offer some online courses via BlackBoard, and we're a mostly rural state, though. Our BON endorses EC, and I was able to get a scholarship from the BON to attend the program. My BON at least, has some sense. ;)

Before I started the program, I called all the schools in the area that I thought I would want to attend after I was done, to see if they accepted EC credits. All of them did.

But did they show as "EC module 1", "EC module 2", etc, or were they given a name?

They just say, "Nursing Concepts 1," etc.

It depends on the school. Some schools will give you automatic credit for all the the lower level nursing classes, and lower level general eds just for being an RN, then you just do their upper level things, but nothing from the original school technically transfers over.

Other schools, will actually look at each and every class to see how it will transfer, and you wind of taking whatever won't. This can be a problem for EC grads because a lot of us take many CLEPs, and the new school, may only accept oh so many credits from CLEP, or doesn't deal with it at all, that would mean courses would have to be repeated. Also you may wind up taking curses that were not required with EC like chemistry, or zoology. The biggest problem with this, is that in most cases you will have to take all of those things before you will even be considered for the actual nursing program. Too much bull with this option for me. I need it cut and dry, straight to the point.

I am looking for school that do the firt example that I gave. And example of that would be Lunah's school Chamberlian.

Graceland does what you are looking for I believe.
