4550- Evidence Based Nursing

Published

From looking at the classes starting in fall, I'm guessing that Evidence Based nursing is replacing Research? Anyone have any idea if stats is still required prior to taking this, as it was with Research?

I found this site by accident and boy am I GLAD I found it!!!!!! I am not the only one that doesn't know what the heck is going on!!! I am freaking out!! I have been working for 3 1/2 hours and feel as if I am not getting anywhere!!!!!

I emailed the professor (i'm in section 020) and awaiting the response. The ta's email bounced back to me!!

I'm confused on writing 2-3 well developed sentences about the articles and telling if quantitative and or qualitative!!

I am just glad to hear I am not the only one freaking out!!!

:geek:

Just heard back from professor. The "writing 2-3 well developed sentences....." was from another assignment and removed from the course. I emailed her back about the meta analysis.

Her response was just to follow the announcement!!

Specializes in Emergency and Cardiovascular ICU.

Ok, so I just recieved this email clarifying DB3.

Directions: Carefully review the critical thinking decision path on page 179 of your textbook and identify the differences between an experimental design and a quasi-experimental design. Also, be sure to carefully review the tables on page 183 and on page 187.

Make a list of three strengths and three weaknesses for each design: experimental and quasi-experimental.

Read thoroughly the article Characteristics of Insured Patients with Persistent Gaps in Diabetes Care Services. Article is posted on the announcement board.

Decide whether this study was an experimental design or a quasi-experimental design and list three reasons to support your decision. Please list.

Read pages 210-213 of your textbook then visit Ohio University's online Library, or another library of your choice, to locate a single article that is a systematic review or a meta-analysis of a topic related to diabetes.

Write 2-3 well-developed sentences, per research article, addressing the review findings; Note: make certain to note how many articles in the review were qualitative and quantitative and state what quantitative designs were found. After reading the article you will address the findings in each article that is analyzed. A meta-analysis often analyzes between 3 -15 articles. You will write 2-3 sentences for each article analyzed. You do nothing with the reference page of the meta-analysis -only focus on the articles analyzed.

Include a minimum of 2 in text citations with references at the end of the post

Include a minimum of 2 (no more than 3) professional references; your textbook may be used as one of the references; other reference(s) must come from peer reviewed journals (search on the internet for the definition and examples of peer reviewed journals)

Submit your responses to your peers by no later than 11:59 pm Sunday of Week 3.

Use APA style format

Review and thoughtfully reply to at least two other student's postings

Responses must be a minimum of one well-developed paragraph (approximately 5 well-developed sentences)

Responses must include one in text citation with reference at the end of the post

So in case any of you were wondering NOOOOO! this did not clarify anything for me. It is simply a re-post of the original directions in BB. TA-1 Me-0.... It appears it will be a loosing battle to understand what is required of us!

Specializes in Correctional Nursing; MSN student.

Note from Ms Andreano

There has been confusion about the assignment instructions for this week

Professor Andreano has clarified the requirements:

Make a list of three strengths and three weaknesses for each design: experimental and quasi-experimental.

Read thoroughly the article Characteristics of Insured Patients with Persistent Gaps in Diabetes Care Services. This article was posted as an attachment to an announcement last week and is attached here as well.

Decide whether this study was an experimental design or a quasi-experimental design and list three reasons to support your decision

This should explain the assignment and it is the current explanation.

Go with the usual citations/references, etc.

This is the same thing that was posted in our assignment tab. Some say it's in and some say it's out! It just doesn't make sense to have 2 assignments for one DB post. I hope they get their act together soon!:banghead:

mtsteelhorse have you checked blackboard recently. There was an announcement posted about 20 mins ago titled further clarification. Which I posted above

Specializes in Correctional Nursing; MSN student.

Nope, mine doesn't say that at all. The extra article thing was abandoned on mine.

Must be nice. Wish there was some consistency among TA's! Well I can't afford to loose points considering the quality of scores I'm getting on the tests "quizzes". Good luck to all. I think I'm going to try and just answer each criteria listed

Hello everyone. I also am glad I found this site. Thank you for clarify DV and IV. It really helped me understand them. I also got the clarification email. Does not look like we need the meta-analysis or systematic review. I included mine only because I already did it and want to play it safe. Go to ohio library, go to databases, type in CINAHL, CIHAHL Plus with full text, boolean/phrase before you do your search. I searched systematic review, diabetes. A lot of research articles came up. Good Luck!
