All the jobs I see posted and I can't land one because I don't have 1 years experience. Ive been praying doing everything i can. i feel like the 16 months i spent in nursing school was for nothing, needed to vent.

You may want to think about relocating if that us an option for you. Depending on where you lube the market may just be to flooded with nurses right now.

I don't know where you are now, but western ND is hiring for just about everything, last time I checked. The COLA is high, but so are the wages!

I'm so sorry for what you're currently going through.

Based on your recent posts, I can determine you're in the NYC metro area, which is one of the toughest job markets in the country for new nurses with no experience or connections. Is there any possible way you can commute further out in the tri-state area to find work, perhaps to Connecticut or northern NJ?

I know that relocating to central NY or upstate is probably not an option right now because you'd need to come up with the first and last month's rent plus a deposit fee.

OMG!!!!!!! Are the nursing homes even asking for such requirements? Have you gone to the places where you did your clinicals? Sometimes just recognizing a familiar face might help in landing a job. Beef up your sales pitch more, if you haven't already, by telling them how fast a learner you are and that you could be easily molded into the nurse perfect for their facility. Of course that won't land you a paycheck before Monday. I am so very, very sorry to hear this, especially when the powers that be scream nursing shortage whenever we ask for help!!!!!

I'm sorry to hear what you are going through and I understand your frustration. I live in California and I have not been able to find a LVN job as well. I'm having the worst luck ever. They want that one year experience, too. But what they don't understand is that how are we to get that experience if no one is willing to give us a chance right? I'm considering doing what Lyndaa mentioned and go to the clinical sites. Maybe you should consider that as well? I wish you the best. And don't give up!

GOsh, I am shocked. In Texas nurses switch jobs on a whim sometimes. No chance of unemployment here. I can't imagine anywhere that is so full of nurses. I would try Dr. offices, nursing homes if nothing else available, but boy, you will sure be working. I am so sorry this is happening, and really kinda freaked out by it. (cause nurses are hunted down and catered to down here/ you may not get a sign on bonus with no experience, but that's abt the only difference.) Maybe cause I live close to Houston/med center so big. But hey NYC has to be bigger huh?

GOOD LUCK.

Maybe move somewhere, or long commute for a yr.

Depends on the area. Texas is a big state.

Texas nurses with EXPERIENCE have the option of switching jobs. Few new nurses can do this.

I'm in San Antonio. The nursing homes down here aren't exactly falling all over themselves to hire newbs. Damn near everyone's on a hiring freeze. You can get a job but agency's going to be your best bet but new nurses need structure and resources. SUPPORT. Who wants to risk their license being out in the field. Completely alone...and you ARE alone out there! LOL

Same with Houston. Not completely saturated but it's not a jobs-a-plenty situation for new nurses, either. Now, that's just not true.

I can't say much to OP besides wishing her 'good luck'.

An individual's best bet is to bite the bullet and start networking/building leads/laying the groundwork for your career while in nursing school.

While researching this field, I saw a potentital for trouble on the horizon. So, I just did what I could to ensure that I'd come out on the other side with something resembling a job. CNA--> GVN --> LVN.

It's the only reason why I have a job.

... but let's face it: MOST aren't going to do this. I know, because most in my class didn't. Only a handful of us had jobs lined up. The bulk of my class didn't even think of the job situation until we were a month out from graduating. Then, they were scurrying about wondering where they were going to get a job.

It is, what it is.

I'm just hoping that others will do the same. Do what you must to secure a position while in school. You'll thank yourself in the end.

Don't bother coming to Connecticut! I am (was?) a new grad licensed in NOV 2010 and unable to find anyone who doesn't say I need one year of experience. My house is in foreclosure, so I have limited time, but able to milk it for a little while. Pretty soon, I may be in the same boat as you are.

I've been living in Texas for the past 7 years, in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, and there's plenty of unemployed new grad nurses around here. The nursing job market started getting bad in this area in 2009.

I'm in Houston, and no, it's not exactly easy to get a job here as a new grad, especially when it isn't around the time for residencies. If you're like one of my parents, with 20+ years of nursing under your belt, it's easier to find a job. There's need outside of Houston, like in the surrounding areas, but a lot of people don't want to stay. My parents think I'm crazy for moving to another state, but I already know I can't compete with some of my classmates and the other nursing graduates (my GPA barely meets the minimum requirements for some of the hospitals).

Wow. OK, not all home care agencies will hire without experience, but some will. Find a telemetry or EKG monitoring program, and get a job as a tele tech in the mean time, if you can. Take a med or CNA job if you have to until you can find something better. They pay better that BK. Also, try psych tech or mental health tech at rehab places or places with psych units. Can you relocate? Did you attempt to collect any unemployment?
