Hey everyone,

I was looking into during the nursing program at EVC and was wondering if they are doing a wait list for there ADN program or if entry is based on merit. Thanks for your time and any info would be great.

I was getting a pedi the other day and overheard a woman talking to someone about her career. She just finished nursing school and got a job at O'Conner or Regional. What bothered me the most about this conversation I overheard was how she got into the EVC program: her boss knew the Director of Nursing for EVC, so she got immediately accepted into the program. I just find this to be unfair for those who work so hard, apply to the program, and expect to be chosen fairly (I am one of those.)

Wow. That sucks. :(

Has anyone gotten word about their acceptance to EVC's next program cycle?

I only ask because my friend received a call from the Program Coordinator with her good news. I'm envious.

When u guys talk about GPA- are u guys referring to cumulative (in my case since I have a BA that would mean ALL classes I've ever taken) or GPA for just pre-req's?

how long is their ADN rogram? how many semesters?

Some updates... they no longer admit based off of merit. You have to meet some cut scores (info at their webpage) but after that they run strictly off of lottery and maintain no waitlist. Their program is four semesters (summers off) and they start half in the fall and half in the spring. Take care!

@Cee Lee 78 I have heard of something similar which made my blood boil. Another person told me she had some classmates who only applied to EVC and were confident they would get in. She asked them how they could be so sure and they replied, "It's who you know!"

I couldn't believe that! I was both crushed and disappointed in EVC. I grew up taking classes here and really love it but it's sad to hear that this is happening--and probably not just at EVC. There is no regulation of any of the lotteries so no oversight. At first I thought the lottery system would be useful in that it could help more people from diverse backgrounds who may not have 4.0s attend nursing school but now I realize that without oversight, there's no guarantee that this selection system will be any better than a merit system. At least with a merit system, your grades and TEAs score would have to speak for themselves.

Whoops here is the original quote from Cee Lee 78

So I just got news that I am an alternate at EVC for the nursing program. This is after I got a rejection letter back in Jan. I felt renewed hope until I found out what my alternate # was--let's say it's still a long shot. I sent them my TEAS transcript and will have to wait for more news to come. It's unlikely I'll get in for fall '11 or even sp. '12. We will have to see I suppose. I swear this has been an emotional roller coaster!

I believe EVC has a new policy requiring nutrition to be taken there to even apply, or is that de anza...?

That's De anza. You don't need nutrition to apply to EVC. I also applied to De Anza. Their nutrition class was pretty tough

did you apply for the lvn bridge or just rn?
