would you even attempt this?

I have been an RN on a telemetry floor for approx. 4 months at a hospital.

my hospital has a policy that you can't transfer within until at least 6 mos. in a position, however, i was reading the MR policy on that and it said under certain circumstances, a transfer may be made. there is a new RN position open in the OR for days and I would kill to have it.

if it were you, and you really wanted the OR day job, and you knew if u didn't apply soon it might go to a new grad (it's new grad season soon!) would u apply for it, even though you haven't been in uyour current position for 6 mos?

Yesyesyesyes!

What's it going to hurt?! If they decide to hire the new grad, you know you tried. If they decide to hire you, you get the job you wanted! What're they going to do, put you on some kind of list for applying to transfer too early?! I doubt it.

Classic! Hospitals make rules, then make exceptions so in the end they can do whatever they please. Gotta love em. I say go for the position. The only negative I can see is that it tips your hand to your current manager that you want out, which might be awkward depending on how the bread is buttered there. I still say go for it if that's what you want.

Why not? Go for it! All they can do is not let you transfer. Good luck!

As long as HR isn't going to come down and spill all your news to your nurse manager (I don't know just HOW small of a hospital it is) then why not?

As far as your chances are concerned - if it's your first 4 months on any floor with no critical care/OR experience, you may not be taken seriously. But as others have said, what does it hurt to try!

Go for it - can't hurt to make your wants known.

the worst they can say is no. And it will help clearly define your goals for your career. Even if they don't bend the 6 month rule this time, they will know you want a position in OR and may just contact you first to apply for the next one. Go for it!

i say go for it, but keep your cards hidden in case things dont work out. why dont your first just go to HR and just inquire about the position - are they hiring internal?, is it solely for new grads?, etc. to see if you even have a shot at it. then you can decide what to do from there. as someone already said, that could create a sticky situation if your current NM found out, depending on your relationship.

I definitely would look into it, I'd also kill for an OR position - just be careful.

Yes, go for it!

I wouldn't only attempt it, I would knock down old ladies in the hall to get my application in ASAP!!!

YES! Go for it! If they say no, then try to negotiate with them. Be persistent, but professional. Look at it this way: the fine print states that no transfers are allowed before 6 months. You get your application in now, they tell you that you can't transfer for another two months. THEN you tell them that it will take about 2 months for the application/interview process to be completed anyway, so you are being PROACTIVE in wanting your application to be first in line! They will surely be impressed with your spunk and your enthusiasm and will remember you.

Good luck, sweetheart! I hope you get it!:)
