Hi everyone! i'm a canadian bsn student that will (hopefully of course) be graduating next spring, and i would really like to move to nc. at this point i'm still not sure where exactly, but i am interested in working in the er. now i know that cape fear in fayetteville has a residency/internship thing for new grads for the er (they were here for a job fair last year) but i've since heard that fayetteville is not exactly the most exciting place to live. i've heard it described as a military town, and having spent some time in the canadian versions i'm reluctant to relocate to there. does anyone know of other hospitals in nc that will accept new grads into the er? thanks so much for your help!

I went to work in Pitt's ED as a new grad, and we have several new nurses coming in this year also.
Aneroo: and how did/do you like it? and your social life outside work/your location? thanks!

New Hanover Health systems take new grads. Wakemed might.
New Hanover? Where's that? (i'll do a google search, but just in case there's more than one....lol) thanks!
hehehe- I just replied to your post in the ER thread. lol Forgot I had already replied to this one!
Not much of a social life, but I have a new child at home, so socializing isn't high on my list anymore. Several co-workers are still about to have a fairly decent social life though.

New Hanover Regional Medical Center is located in Wilmington. http://www.nhrmc.org
I also believe Duke University Medical Center hires new graduates in the ED. http://www.dukenursing.org/

WakeMed does except new grads with great references from clinical instructors. Nash General Hospital accepts new grads and does Wilson Medical Center, Heritage Hospital, Wayne Memorial, and as mentioned above Pitt County Memorial. Wilson Medical center offers the highest starting pay for new grads in this part of Eastern NC @ $20/hr with very competetive shift diffrientials and benefits packages. As for Fayetteville being a military town...I lived there for two years and yes it is....especially the further towards Ft. Bragg you get. However, if you are not looking to deal much with the military community then Cape Fear would be your choice in comparision to Womack Army Medical Center. All military personnel and dependents recieve medical care on post unless they get special permission to do otherwise. As far as nothing going on in that town I'd have to disagree. It's a fairly large metro area with great shopping and various cultures. Sorry if I seem a little offended and am quick to defend....my husband was in the Army for over six years and was just discharged last year - I'm a little biased in that aspect I suppose.
gr8nurse: sorry if i offended you, that certainly wasn't my intention! i was a member of the reserves up here in canada for a few years, and our military towns (most of them anyways) send shudders thru me! having never been to nc (or anywhere in the states other than florida when i was 10) i have to rely on hearsay for what places are like, which the closer i come to graduating and making a decision, the more stressful it becomes. anyways, if fayetteville is fairly large metro area (any idea of the pop btw?) then i can keep it on my list! thanks so much for the input. lt
Add two more to the list (nonmilitary towns) that accept new grads into the ED:
Beaufort County Hospital
Washington County Hospital
