I've gone back to school, and I'm 45. I was going to school to be a Rad Tech, but apparently there are no job's in that market, and it doesn't look like this will change for a while. I've always' loved to go into nursing, and now I have a chance. Do you think my age will effect my getting a job down the road. I still have 2 year's of nursing school to go, and that's if I can get into a nursing school. My GPA is 3.5. Thank you very much for your feedback. I really appreciate anything anyone can tell me. :)

Hate to burst your bubble but the job market for nursing now is the pits
Oh my goodness. I don't know what to do. Do you think in 2 year's it will be better for nurses. I dont' know which way to go. Wow. I'm almost done with my associate's, and that's the direction I was headed. Thank you for your feedback.

Oh no i do not think your age will matter! You have a great GPA just take your entrance exam and do good and you should get right in! There is such a need for nurses you should have no problem! Good luck!

I say go for it. The economy is forcast to bounce back in the next couple years so by the time you graduate, you shouldn't have a problem getting a job.

Yes, but it won't always be this way. It's a cycle. When I graduated in 1977 the market was flooded with nurses and it was very hard to get a job(and it paid $2.70/hr!) During the Reagan years that situation turned around and nursing became once again "the recession-free" profession. When the economy tanked in 2008 and lots of people lost their jobs, nursing hung in there for awhile. One of the reasons the market is glutted now is that nurses have had to come out of retirement to put food on the table. It will be interesting to see what happens when the economy improves and jobs become plentiful across the board. I believe we're gonna see a lot of those nurses drop out of the work force once again.
Thank you very much for your quick response. I will continue to work hard toward's my degree, and hopefully get into get into a good school. I'm looking for an entrance into 2011. Your right in a few year's it should bounce back. Thank you for your encouragement.
Thank you very much for your feedback. I appreciate it very much.

I graduate in May, and everyone keeps asking what in the world I'll do, because there's not many jobs. Well, I tend to be optimistic (and arrogant), so I'll do what others wont to make sure I start earning a paycheck sooner! It's time for us to be publicists and our own ad-agency. Get yourself out there and get a job. There's plenty to be had, they're just more difficult to find at the moment!
Thank you for responding so quickly. Your right you have to get out there, and look.

You should definitely go for it! Your age will be a BONUS because you will have a little more life experiene than the 25 year olds in your class. You have plenty of life left in you to enjoy a wonderful career in nursing. Your GPA is good, and it is very competitive (at least in my region - the Pacific Northwest). And yes, perhaps the market is weird right now and there are a lot of hospital hiring freezes going on...but they are lifting and things will get better by the time you are out of school. And don't forget about all the aging baby boomers and all the soon to be RN retirees! That means a lot more patients and a lot more open nursing positions!
Nursing is great and talk about JOB SECURITY. While all my college buddies were making it big in investment banking or financial advising, or sales or law, ...I was taking nursing pre-reqs...and now they are all out of a job and I am about to graduate and already have job offers!
Have confidence in yourself. Stop doubting and start working towards that goal of becoming a nurse! Good luck!
