hhmm..i guess i have to think about it..im running out of time...they don't even considered me as waiting list for september..i will be on visit visa in abudabi by december... i'm a female nurse, is it worth taking this training? i heard that only male EMT were qualified. i just wanna take these step cause i want to work in emergency department. I'm here in riyadh, and soon i'll go home.. pls enlighten me...thankks for the reply ron-rn. =)

i'm planning to take EMT course as soon as i got home..I'm thinking about where to take it, and i have only limited months to stay in the philippines. LSTI next schedule is OCT24, but i really need to take the Sept class...i guess, ill try PEMFRI? what are other accredited schools you can recommend? after taking the course, can i take the licensure ASAP? do i really need to take the OJT? pls respond......thanks!

i have been an emt for 11 years. even before i got all my other degrees. and i got it from the only training center back then (i.e. lsti). i was the number 1 in the batch and I hold other professional license, but you know.... i didn't get accepted as an emt in the middle east because i am female. your RN will suffice if you plan to stay in the middle east. besides, it's safer for women to be in the hospital. EMT can wait later if you are really bent on taking it at lsti. also, everyone is also anxiously waiting for the outcome of the senate bill. i hope it works for the better.

I'm quite confuse with EMT courses. Do I need to complete all 5 courses:

  • BASIC EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN - EMT (B)
  • EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN DEFIBRILLATOR TRAINED - EMT (D)
  • EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN, INFUSION AND INTUBATION TRAINED - EMT (I)
  • EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN, ADVANCED - EMT (A)
  • REGISTERED EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN PARAMEDIC - REMT (P)

... to be considered as paramedic and apply in Abu Dhabi, or other countries that are in need of paramedics?

if you're a registered nurse you just need to take the EMT-B to EMT-D training to qualify for the job of paramedic.

to chuku,

you will actually get paid more as an ER nurse than as an EMT. that's why many EMT in the US continue their studies to become nurses. it's only in the philippines that we do things in reverse. it's more of the economy of job availability.

if you really want to become an ER nurse, i would suggest investing more on ACLS, ATLS, PALS and IVT. that will give you a better edge inside the ER. also, finishing an MSN won't hurt. :nurse:

oh, and after getting snobbed by middle east, i landed a job as a university professor here in the philippines. but i now have my own ambulance company. :D

to ron,

finishing EMT-B will already qualify you to land a job in the ambulance. but if you want to become a big fish, taking the next higher level will be your key. in the philippines, we don't have emt-P. i'm not sure if we even have a credible emt-I or A. that's where the RN-EMT's get the edge. :smokin:

oops... my last reply should be for Dee, not Ron.... my bad :uhoh3:

to ochiegan: wow! that's great..i already had a vision to be on teaching field..but since, i have to earn more experience i have to invest with this training first,as wat u said (ATLS,PALS,ACLS)..hhmm..sounds practical..still, im thinking about taking EMT course, for a new challenge and exp..but i want it to be worth.. i really want to take it from LSTI,but i will only take aug-oct sched.no more slot for LSTI. im choosing between PEMFRI and CHEERS. i'm confuse.CHEERS AREMT have only 2weeks training including ojt. hhmm...still, im thinking what step i have to do..can u give me some advice on where to invest..im saving money and time..thanks for the response..=)

... But the whole course would take more than a year, am I right?

i'd choose pemfri over cheers. although cheers has aremt, pemfri has a larger orificenal of heavy duty instructors. another group that's great is rescue one. it's made up of the gods and goddesses of ems in the philippines. but their training is on hold awaiting the result of the ems bill in the senate. i hear that doc ted is now doing lecture at bright. always ask the emt school if they have consultants from the philippine college of emergency medicine (PCEM).

emt-B is around 8 weeks. then you need OJT hours before moving to emt-D, which is around 2 weeks. but after that... i don't know if LSTI has added any program.
