Try calling red cross. I'm not sure though but most our lecturers are EMTs. You can ask them. Goodluck:nurse:

I heard from our safety service CSR in our chapter that the EMT training with red cross is being conducted by an international organization called Operation Smile. Venue is at Makiling Laguna, not sure if they still conduct it there. Training is 2 weeks or 12 days? not sure about that though. and latest info that I heard is that the the training fee is already Php. 16K from Php. 12K before.

With LSTI, it's Php. 20K for 7 weeks.

can anybody tell me how's the work experience of EMTs here in Manila?? does an EMT have to pay fees in order to work at a Hospital just like nurses?

Experience is great but employment here is not that good, just as that with nurses. Actually here in the Phil., most EMT's do not work for a hospital. They work for private ambulance companies and EMS/Rescue groups. The only hospital I know that employs EMT's is PGH, they have their own EMT's. You can find EMT's in other big hospitals but they are not emplyed by those hospitals, their employers are the private ambulance/EMS companies like AeroMed and Lifeline Rescue who has standby units in those hospitals. Sad thing is, there are also trainees/volunteers in private ambulance companies here. We are not required to pay for fees if we would like to volunteer/train with them as well as with the other EMS/rescue groups out there but still you can find some who asks for contributions but not that high compared to the fees in the hospitals.

i'll be starting my training with LSTI early this year. january 3, 2011 to be exact. i am so excited. :yeah:

operation smile is a fraud just like the other new EMT training centers so beware! their training fees are cheaper but they are not recognized here and abroad. the recruitment agencies and companies abroad will not honor your emt trainings if you're not a member of the PSEMT. i should know because i've met a lot of people complaining about operation smile and the other EMT trainings so take your EMT trainings only at LSTI.

The Technical Education and skills development agency already have an EMT program. They call is Emergency Medical Service NCII. The government is standardizing the knowledge of the Filipino people before they go abroad. Being an EMT and choosing of what institution you are going to take the EMT is always an option to each and every nurses who wants to practice as EMT.

The life of an EMT is an exciting one, because you will be saving lives of people you don't even know. You can search via online all the institution who are conducting Emergency Medical Technician, they are cheaper rate than others. Sometimes, other institution is informing that the cheap price institution is a fraud...but i don't think so... It is just a marketing strategy. These institution who are giving cheaper prices, wanted to help nurses to avail cheap and quality. They believe, that most of nurses who recently graduated are having a problem with their financial matters. Therefore, they launch a discounted rates. You can check the website and u can ask them freely. No obligations...

I'll be careful with the word "fraud" coz other might not be comfortable with that. That's the problem with some of the LSTI grads (fyi im also a product of LSTI). Just be humble, if you know you're among the best so be it, just keep it to yourself and don't brag it with others (especially to those from other schools) because if you do, you'll be just like them. I've met many of them and It's funny how they also think of themselves that they are better.

When it comes to recognition, it depends. If it's abroad you're talking, then there really is no doubt about LSTI-PSEMT. But FYI, there is also CHEERS who is also conducting an emt training with an AREMT certification, I guess you just heard that now right? One of their instructor or maybe a shareholder as well (not sure about the latter) is an AREMT assessor, he is a foreigner and if I'm not mistaken he is an assessor of AREMT for Dubai. And also, there's ERUF in Cebu, they're the only one here in the Philippines who is authorized to conduct BTLS as far as I know, not sure though. And the letter given by LSTI w/c states that all their emt-b trainings are integrated with BTLS, I'm not sure about that. I don't think it will be honored.

If it's local recognition, then you cannot say that PSEMT is the only one recognized. There's the PEMFRI w/c I think is the one recognized by TESDA. There's BRIGHT w/c is I think is affiliated with PAEMSP.

But if you're going to ask me w/c school I will choose when it comes to increasing your potential in landing a job abroad, then my answer is definitely LSTI. It's already proven, and there are hundreds of living proof already.

I'm not saying that you will not be able to land a job abroad if you're from other school or organizations. It's just that there is a bigger market for you if you are an LSTI graduate or a PSEMT member and you have a bigger chance of landing a job with the better employers in terms of salary and working condition.

It's really a sort investment. You may gamble and pay less or you can go with the proven one and pay slightly higher? It's your choice.

There is a certain fly-by-night "school" who is claiming that being affiliated with an EMT professional organization is not important and that some Filipino EMT's in the past are able to land a job even if they're not affiliated with these known professional organizations. Well that word "some" speaks for itself, it means that they cannot even guarantee that you'll have a good chance of landing a job abroad w/c I think is important because there are lots of jobless nurses.

Is there a guarantee that they have a big chance of landing a job (a high paying one and not just those low paying jobs w/c is mostly in Saudi) after taking the cheaper course? Is it worth to gamble with the cheap price of fly by night schools?

Well I think having a cheaper rate is also a marketing strategy. If it's cheap then of course many will enroll, more enrollees means more income for the school. If you will research, the tuition fees of those schools who have higher rates are not far form the prices of EMT trainings conducted in other countries so you cannot say that they are expensive.
