Employer Appreciation

Published

Just wondering what other places are doing for their nurses during nurse appreciation week. Im sooo proud of my employer:

One year, they gave us a certificate for a 30 min massage at a local spa. Other things they have done for us - they took out a full page add in a very large newspaper thanking each and everyone of us for the work we do. They listed every nurse by name.

They gave us watches one year, large umbrellas with hospital name on it, this year we all got very nice stethoscopes. Its always something very thoughtful and never the same thing twice.

The last employer I had acted like they were doing us a favor by letting us work there.

Sounds like a great place to work. Wish my employer were as thoughtful.

We're lucky to even get a thank you for a job well done.

Nurses week was not mentioned at all by my last employer. Social workers got flowers and a cake on their day. Secretaries did, too.

Nurse's week was not mentioned at my job either last May. Well, it's Christmas now, and guess what? They're taking up money and wanting 5.00 from everyone in the medical department for guess who???? The nurse manager, of course.

HMMMMM...........I think I have too many bills and other Christmas shopping this year...I don't think I have an extra 5.00.

A hamburger steak dinner with hard a@# rolls and dried out baked potato. Soooo sad:crying2:

Lets see, our new programme director ran around the unit handing out roses and gushing about how much she appreciated her staff. It was the first time I'd met her. She asked days to leave the roses in an obvious place for evenings and nights. I mentioned that I usually worked those shifts and it was nice to meet her. She then gushed profusesly about how "the evening and night shifts are so appreciated and valued".

Flash forward six weeks, I'm at the team meeting on a day shift (vacation relief), said director denied ever meeting me!

So much for valued and appreciated, maybe that should be stated as we know your there but don't need to remember you....

We get some pretty nice things of late....

like lotions/certificates from Bath and Body shop.....(but they did stop that due to not being too terribly useful to the men among us). And, one year, we got a book of inspirational nursing stories.....and grocery store certificates for 25.00. At Christmas, we get grocery certs for 50.00. And they CAN be given to the needy if we dont' want them. So we can "pay it forward".....

I say that is pretty classy. I am appreciative they make the effort they do where I work.

We got screwed as usual. They have a hospital wide Christmas party, which they announced the date of too late for anyone in nursing to request off. Three people on my shift were getting their 5 year pins at the party night, but couldn't be there to accept them because they were at work. The people who were working were supposed to get $15 gift certificates for a local restaurant, but someone complained that the meals for the people at the party were only $14 and it wasn't fair that the people working got $1 more, so they dropped the value of the certificates to $10. They do a drawing for some really nice door prizes, but you have to be present to win and they decided not to put in the names of the people who were at work. They had a Christmas ornament exchange for nursing staff, but if you were working, you didn't get to go, even just for a few minutes. The party for children was only for children under age 12 and you had to pay $3 to get in. They did give us sweatshirts with the hospital logo on them, but a lot of people didn't get the size or color they picked out before they were ordered. Mine is about 3 sizes too big.

Going to whine some more just because I can...I requested my husband's Christmas party off, wich I didn't get. My fire department's party off, which I didn't get because the nurse who works opposite me is going (with her brother who just joined the fire department), and I didn't get my church's party off either...I requested a total of three days off in November / December and I didn't get any of them!

I am in a very bad mood today...just want to cry.

Well, I got all the holidays off this year- by quitting!

That is just sad.....just tweak a few things and people would be much happier. for example:

Our Christmas party was Dec 3, a night I always work. But the hospital took care of us who were working----each of us got a meal from the buffet they served at the party. We ate for free and very well that night, it was just a matter of finding the time to eat, rofl.

And our names were put into the hat for door prizes....last year I won something even though I was not present, but rather, working. A couple of night-shifters won each year, from what I recall. I think that is really nice.

And they dont' do parties for kids, but they do have Santa Claus visit the hospital each year and any child wanting to come, may, free of charge.

I do feel lucky to work where I do. No, it's not perfect, but at least they listened to feedback and complaints from nurses in years past and made the proper adjustments to attempt to be inclusive. The efforts are very much appreciated by the staff, in turn. :)

We're eating out next week. I'm hoping for Red Lobster :D since I like their food and the majority voted to eat there. If mgmt. complains that the food is a little pricey for their budget, I'll pay for the entree myself and let them foot the bill for the appetizer. (Or I'll eat at home before eating there--do I sound weird?)

We used to get Christmas bonuses, but corporate office took those away. Now they're merit-based, but I'm not holding my breath on that one. The folks in corporate will get their perks, but I don't expect one in my paycheck. Heck, they can't even afford to give us a raise.
