I am getting ready to apply to Emory's Fall 2012 BSN for 2nd Degree program and thought it may be helpful to start up a little forum/therapy group-ha.

Has everyone finished their pre-recs? Does anyone else have a non competitive undergrad (like me) G.P.A.? Does anyone know who is considered a competitive applicant? Where is everyone else applying?
I look forward to speaking with everyone...and hopefully entering the Fall '12 class together!
I also applied to ABSN/MSN and have been waiting for SO LONG to hear from them!!!

I think Emory accepts at least 120 students each year to the nursing program (though I should not cite this because I am not sure if this # reflects only ABSN/MSN or all the incoming nursing students)

Hi all, I did apply to the Accelerated BSN/MSN program. I just got my admission letter Jan 19! I am so excited, I thought I wouldn't know until Feb1 maybe it is because I submitted my application before Dec 1 the priority deadline? oh well, I am waiting to see what kind of financial package I would get, I hope it will be an attractive one. Has anyone else been offered admission?
Hi everyone! I wanted to know if anyone attended the information sessions? I would like to apply to the BSN 2nd degree program. Also, do anyone know if they penalize anyone that has been in a previous nursing program?
Hey everyone! Is there anyone else who is still working on pre-reqs this semester? I feel like I'm going to be at a disadvantage because I haven't finished them (even though they say you can complete pre-reqs up until class begins)!
Hi ummnasim! When are you applying? I went and I'd highly recommend attending. For me, it was incredibly helpful to meet some of the staff, take a tour, and confirm what I researched about the program was accurate.
Ummnasim: Unfortunately, if my memory serves me right, financial aid is the one topic that they were unable to elaborate on during the open house. They mentioned that there are too many independent factors that go into financial award packages. Now, calling the financial aid department directly on the other hand should be able to offer you more insight.
I'm not an expert by any means but my approach to the costly Emory price tag is to assume the worst and hope for the best. Finances are a personal matter and I think nursing school is an investment that needs to be carefully thought out. There are a lot of options for financial aid separate from what Emory can offer you which I highly advise you looking into. I only stress this because a gentleman in my building and I were talking and it turned out his wife was accepted to the program last year. However, she assumed that like the community college she was at before, the school would find every last dollar for her and that was not the case. Mind you, this is only what he told me and could be inaccurate however I'd research private loans, their interest rates, and be cognizant of your income classification (for need-based grants). Are you an independent student or still a dependent to your parents? This may be redundant but if you are independent and you anticipate your annual salary to remain the same as 2011, perhaps fill out a FAFSA for and see what your estimated family contribution is?
I think that second bachelors degree's are more challenging to get grants for, however federal and private loans are available if you do your homework.
