Emory University BSN/BSN 2nd Degree, Fall 2012 Applicants

U.S.A. Georgia

Hi Everyone!

I am getting ready to apply to Emory's Fall 2012 BSN for 2nd Degree program and thought it may be helpful to start up a little forum/therapy group-ha.

If you are:

currently applying/a former applicant/a current Emory BSN student/a current BSN/MSN student, I'd love to hear from you!

Has everyone finished their pre-recs? Does anyone else have a non competitive undergrad (like me) G.P.A.? Does anyone know who is considered a competitive applicant? Where is everyone else applying?

I look forward to speaking with everyone...and hopefully entering the Fall '12 class together!

Shannon

I have also applied to the BSN/MSN program. I think I'm going to go out of my mind waiting. I just hate not knowing exactly what I will be doing a few months from now. I really hope I get in. I keep checking OPUS-- just looking for any clue of information. I know they won't send letters til Febuary but it doesn't stop me from checking!

Would everyone mind posting their stats: undergrad GPA,pre rec GPA, when you graduated from undergrad? Thanks!!

danceluver, I can't even remember which one I have applied to so many lol. I'm pretty sure it was accelerated though. What about you?

Segue....my thought process was that they are exactly the same amount of semesters and you can't start fulltime until the fall anyway.....gives me a little time to breathe during the program :) Good luck!

Hello Everyone,

This is first time I am writing here.

Yes, waiting time is killing me too. I just can not wait anymore. I have applied for BSN at Emory, mercer and Kennesaw for fall 2012.

I have 3.88 GPA from GPC. I am taking TEAS on 2nd Jan 2012.

I am really hoping for the best for all of us.

Thank you.

Hi everyone!

I am currently enrolled in the BSN program at Emory. Please feel free to ask me any questions. I will try to answer them the best I can.

Good luck to all of you. I was in your position last year so I know exactly how you all feel!

@CBC1999: Thanks for posting....i have some questions

What do you think of the clinical rotations in this program? The faculty and instructors? Do you think the increased tuition is worth it? Are you doing either the accelerated program or segue program? How much free time do you have and what do you think about or have been told about future job prospects when you finish? What sort of financial aid did you receive? i heard the scholarships are pretty competitive! From my contact with the school, everyone seems so friendly and helpful truly very excited about applying!

how did you do on your TEAS if you m ind me askin

These are great questions and it is my pleasure to answer for you!

Rotations: I just completed my first semester so I do not have experience with other rotations. I was at the Emory Ortho and Spine Hospital and I really liked it. I am pleased with the number of options available for rotations. You do not have a say during your first semester but from your second semester on, you get to choose between locations.

Faculty: For the most part, everyone on faculty is amazing. There are always exceptions to the rule but overall they are top notch. Emory is not a weed out school. Once you are in the fully expect for you to graduate. Because of that, everyone is VERY helpful and wants you to succeed.

Tuition/Financial Aid: It is hard to answer if the increased tuition is worth it. Can you go to a less expensive school and work as a nurse? Absolutely! Emory is an amazing school (21st in the nation) and as such has an amazing reputation. I think the most important thing is that you graduate with a BSN and not an Associate's degree. That is really the most important thing. As far as financial aid goes, I do not receive any. Most of the students do, but it is still expensive.

The TEAS was not required last year.

I was so excited to see this message board! I have been searching all over the internet trying to find any information about how competitive the program is, how many people get accepted, etc.

I am applying for the 2nd degree program. I taught elementary school for 3 years and decided it just wasn't for me. I have completed most of my prereqs. I saw some of your questions about gpa, teas scores, pre-req gpa and I was curious about what the ranges were for other applicants, too! Here are my numbers-

1st degree GPA from Presbyterian College (SC)- 3.8

Pre-req gpa- 4.0

TEAS- 90.6

I've submitted everything, but I'm missing one recommendation. It should be in this week, though. What about y'all? Have you guys submitted everything?? Good luck to you all!

Is anyone else applying to Kennesaw's accelerated program? I am!

Specializes in Pediatrics.

I have one last transcript that should hopefully be in this week. It was not sent until this semester's grades were posted.

@crjohnson---I am!! I'm so excited about the prospect of living in or around Atlanta....

Oh and for Emory, don't need to submit you TEAS right away, unless you decide to matriculate into Emory. Only GRE scores for now.
