Emory Pre-req Questions

Published

Hi there! I'm coming out of lurkdom again. :)

I got my acceptance letter to Emory over the holidays. I'm very excited about attending Fall 2006!

I have two pre-reqs left to complete and I'm a bit worried that I might be in a pickle. Here's the deal:

I've been re-taking some pre-reqs at Georgia Perimeter that were too old to qualify for the program. I retook A&P II last spring and Micro this past fall semester. For Emory, I need to take, according to their website, General Chemistry I and General Chemistry II (with an organic component). They had said at the open house that a nutrition class I had might qualify for the Chem II, but it looks like it didn't.

My first question to anyone who might know is: Does Survey of Chemistry II qualify for the "General Chemistry II (with an organic component)" requirement?

Supposing it does, I can register for Survey of Chemistry I at GPC for the spring semester. However, I don't think Survey of Chemistry II is offered in the summer at GPC, which leaves me in a bit of a bind. Anyone think they would let me take Chem I and II concurrently since I have 3 higher level sciences than Chem I and 3 higher level math classes than the pre-req for Chem I? Or, does anyone think I can take Survey of Chem I at GPC and then Survey of Chem II at GA State as a transient student in the summer? (The GPC and GA State Survey of Chem classes seem almost identical.)

Ok, enough rambling....just having a bit of a panic attack here. Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions/etc.!

If Orientation starts on the 29th, why does the class schedule show classes on the 28th?

What class schedule?

Also, in the email from ***, she said something about a book list. Have you guys received an "official" bok list?

If you log onto opus you can look at the class schedule.

There's a book list??? *panics* Where? Where?

And I haven't looked at the OPUS schedule thing there...I'll go check it out.

Ok, yeah, that's weird. The weekly schedule shows classes on Mon. the 28th, but the regular schedule view shows them starting on the 1st.

Here's my other question... How do we have a class from 10:00-12:00 and 10:00-1:00 on Monday??

I think that's because you have a choice of when you want your short and long days... Some people have long days on tues and thurs and some on monday and wednesday or something to that effect. The 10-12 day is the long day because you have a class from 1-3 afterwards or again, something to that effect. Short days end at 12 or 1 and long end at 3 or later if you have a late lab. There will be groups of students with slightly different schedules from what I understand. I haven't slept for four days so I have no idea what I'm talking about.

THe book list was sent out in Learnlink email....But you can just log onto the Emory medical book store website and choose your classes and you'll see the books you need and how much they are (new and used).

I'm wondering if they will make me get the books at the school bookstore with the school provided money or if I can get them on my own and they will give me the difference...

got my background check back... I'm a child molester/patriot act offender/something or other.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone! I'll be starting the program with you all in a few weeks. I noticed in previous threads that y'all had discussed getting together for coffee sometime. If you have plans to do it again, I'd love to come along. Talk to you soon!

Hey!!!! Glad you're here! *hugs*

And yes, we've talked about meeting for coffee, twice now, but I think we're all scared of each other as we have to actually do it!
