Emory Pre-req Questions

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hi there! I'm coming out of lurkdom again. :)

I got my acceptance letter to Emory over the holidays. I'm very excited about attending Fall 2006!

I have two pre-reqs left to complete and I'm a bit worried that I might be in a pickle. Here's the deal:

I've been re-taking some pre-reqs at Georgia Perimeter that were too old to qualify for the program. I retook A&P II last spring and Micro this past fall semester. For Emory, I need to take, according to their website, General Chemistry I and General Chemistry II (with an organic component). They had said at the open house that a nutrition class I had might qualify for the Chem II, but it looks like it didn't.

My first question to anyone who might know is: Does Survey of Chemistry II qualify for the "General Chemistry II (with an organic component)" requirement?

Supposing it does, I can register for Survey of Chemistry I at GPC for the spring semester. However, I don't think Survey of Chemistry II is offered in the summer at GPC, which leaves me in a bit of a bind. Anyone think they would let me take Chem I and II concurrently since I have 3 higher level sciences than Chem I and 3 higher level math classes than the pre-req for Chem I? Or, does anyone think I can take Survey of Chem I at GPC and then Survey of Chem II at GA State as a transient student in the summer? (The GPC and GA State Survey of Chem classes seem almost identical.)

Ok, enough rambling....just having a bit of a panic attack here. Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions/etc.!

I actually already did read Chapter 9.

I am definitely at least skimming the whole thing, but I mean, 3/4 of it is "can you read? and can you count?" Sure there are some calculations and what is up with this apothecary system thing? What Shakespeare reading nut actually thinks in terms of Drams and Grains naturally unstead of metric, or at least household system?

I almost spit up all of my water I just drank laughing at that gif.

Specializes in Endocrine (Diabetes), Pediatric Psych.

Ahhhh!!! Coming out of lurkdom...more like, coming back from a long week or so of volunteering at diabetes camp in the middle of nowhere...so I'm like, oh my God, EMAIL...computers EXIST!! LOL, oh man! Anyways, I saw from reading the posts that the A&P tests weren't graded so I went ahead and took it...does that mean that I was the guinea-pig? LOL...well, I know y'all want the lowdown, so I'll put it this way, MOST of the stuff I recognized (doesn't necessarily mean that I remembered the answer from last touching anatomy in the first week of May, but I know it was taught sometime)...so if you have good long-term memory, you should be fine...or if you just got finished taking anatomy, you'll probably remember more than me... :)

Did anyone else take it?

I just finished anatomy, but I took the test yesterday and still felt the same as you. I recognized the terms and had a lot of "well, I think this answer sounds familiar for no particular reason..."

Complete change of subject: while I am typing, guess what is on tv? Pee Wee's Playhouse!! Ohmigod! It was my favorite show when I was little! I haven't seen it on tv in years, for obvious reasons but wow, it still a good kids show even by today's standards. Of course, its on after midnight on cartoon network's adult swim, so I think its actually geared toward a slightly different, slightly more inebriated audience! Now if they'd just bring back Transformers and He-Man and She-Ra's Masters of the Universe I'd have my Saturday mornings planned!

After they caught him in the theater, I can't watch PWPH anymore

I agree that it was an awful career move! But I still have such fond memories of that show as a kid. I remember seeing the mugshot on the news and telling my Dad "That's not Pee-Wee! Pee-Wee wears a bowtie!"

BTW I promise I'm not retarded sitting around watching kids shows all day (only okay if you have kids!), I just got a little nostalgic!

I gave my two week notice at work today. I guess its just now becoming real to me that I AM starting nursing school in three weeks.

Even though I'm excited about becoming a nurse and I hated my lab jobs, its still scary to quit and step off into the unknown without a paycheck! I'm terrified. :chair:

I'm not even giving a 2 week notice. THey fire people where I work as soon as you say you're leaving. I might as well get these last two weeks of paid vacation in.

Yeah, I understand how you feel. The job I had last year was like that, I had to quit right before Christmas to move down here. I told my supervisor, who I trusted, but I didn't tell my boss til right before my scheduled vacation for Christmas. We didn't have any patients scheduled for the holidays or early January, so it didn't really matter (I was doing a phase I clinical trial). It wasn't a big staffing problem for him though, since he told everyone in January that he was moving the lab to Florida and they were all out of a job! Alot of PIs (people who run labs) are kinda crazy like that so I was worried to give my notice, but my current boss was very nice about it and excited for me to be starting school. He was so nice about it he made me feel bad about quitting! But I'm still not superwoman and I can't go to school, work at the hospital, and work in the lab!

Enjoy your "vacation"!

If Orientation starts on the 29th, why does the class schedule show classes on the 28th?
