EMORY ABSN+MSN 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

So I decided to start a thread for the Fall 2018. Any current/prospective student on here? What GPA did you have when you applied and how competitive is the selection process? If you don't mind sharing your work experience and GRE score, that will be awesome. For those who are enrolled, do you mind sharing your experience?

I tell myself admission decisions are only posted on Fridays. So I only allow myself to obsessively check 1x per week. Seems to help, but I still refresh my email like crazy!

Does anyone know if we will hear back soon?

Hi! I only just discovered this website. I'm really confused-- people who applied for the ABSN-MSN program are already hearing back about decisions? I didn't think that admissions were done on a rolling basis.

We discussed this earlier in the thread but some of the reasons that I have put forward are as follows:

1) In previous year's threads (2016 and 2017), it was basically stated that alumni are pretty much guaranteed an admit and a spot in the program should they decide to apply so my conjecture is that those are the individuals that were admitted first

2) At a few of the schools where I went for the info sessions and got a chance to speak to the faculty, they stated that they generally admit students by specialty. I imagine Emory is pretty similar. Depending on whether the committee for that specialty is ready to meet, they might meet early enough and be able to admit students even before the official notification date, which for Emory is Nov 15th. Some specialties also have smaller pools of applicants versus the larger specialties so they might be able to more quickly grant admits then other specialties.

3) The final answer, is that we just don't know. In previous years, some of the applicants on ANs stated that there was a lack of transparency with the admissions process and they were a bit confused why some people were admitted very early and others were not. It could be due to exceptional grades or perhaps they were in a local feeder program that links directly to Emory's SON. For example, I submitted my application on July 6th but 3 months later my pre-reqs are currently not checked off even though the school has confirmed receipt of my official transcripts. Other people on this thread have had everything checked off for their application and haven't heard back yet. Other people got their pre-reqs checked off after telephoning them but are still waiting for a response a few months later so it runs the gamut.

All I can say is be patient. The official early decision deadline date was yesterday so they might just be starting the review for the general pool of applicants. The admit notification date is Nov 15th so it is still a month away so officially there is still a lot of time to hear back. Many of us have telephoned and e-mailed and they have stated that they are still reviewing applications. I understand that it is hard to wait, I am getting all fidgety just writing this post because after all our hard work who wouldn't want to know, am I right? But I am just going to relax, take some yoga classes, and plan a short holiday for next year before school starts (no matter where I get admitted to) so that I get a rest in before being thrown into the nursing school maelstrom.

Hopefully, this was a helpful summary. Everyone else on the thread, please feel free to chime in if I missed anything.

I had an issue with one of my prerequisites and my GRE score (was supposed to get waived because I have >3.5 GPA), and I just emailed someone asking what was going on with that and they fixed it right away. Like, literally right then and there. I refreshed the page 15 minutes later and everything was suddenly checked off. That was about a week ago-- how long does it seem to take them to process applications? Does anyone know? I'm so nervous now that I've got all green check marks!

I've also e-mailed as well but they keep saying that my pre-reqs will be cleared once they review my application and my transcripts but I guess it doesn't hurt to e-mail again to see if there are any updates.

Which specialty are you applying to?

When you say review it, do you mean like go through it to make sure you have all the items present for your application, or like full on accept/deny review? I can't imagine it'd be the latter considering that as soon as I emailed her she was like, "Oh! Sorry about that, I'll fix it right now. We have all your items."

Quote from her email: "I went back in and checked off the items that you mentioned."

Basically I just emailed her a list of what was missing (I had half the prerequisites checked off and half still red X's, and it'd been like that for a month). Turned out to be a misunderstanding. Maybe the woman who happened to get my email is just super nice haha.

Yeah, as in make sure all my items are present. The reason I asked which specialty is because most schools review applicants by specialty and each selection committee meets at different times. From what I could gather, midwifery meets last which is why I am not too concerned that they are still reviewing my application. That was why I wanted to see which specialty that you are applying to to see if that jives. So far I believe we have had applicants hear back for FNP and AG and I think there might have been one Peds but don't quote me on that one.

I'm applying to the pediatric primary care one. I don't recall anyone in this chat having heard back from peds yet? My application wasn't 100% complete until last week (turns out I'd accidentally applied to ABSN without MSN, and found out by chance when I emailed asking about the X's next to my prereqs. Got it fixed obviously haha)

Uh oh! Then maybe that isn't such a good sign for me then since I did e-mail twice and no one was willing to clear my pre-reqs for me. I guess all I can do is wait. Yeah, I might be wrong about Peds. I am on so many threads right now I am sure I am getting them crossed somewhere lol. It should be just FNP and AG so far for Emory, I will need to double check the old posts but I am pretty sure that those two specialties have had applicants post that they have been admitted.
