EMORY ABSN+MSN 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

So I decided to start a thread for the Fall 2017. Any current/prospective student on here? What GPA did you have when you applied and how competitive is the selection process? If you don't mind sharing your work experience and GRE score, that will be awesome. For those who are enrolled, do you mind sharing your experience?

My acceptance letter states ABSN + MSN. I just talked to the nursing school today and they said AMSN and MSN refer to the same curriculum but different cohorts. Basically,if you've been admitted into the combined ABSN+MSN program, then the master's portion of your program falls under the "AMSN" category as opposed to just regular MSN. However, it doesn't mean that your track is actually accelerated; you are just in a different cohort than MSN students at Emory who received their BSN elsewhere.

Same here @sierra_foxtrot and @RT_2b_NP. I live in between Irving and Richardson in Dallas. Applied October 15. Was wait-listed January 15. Fingers crossed! And congratulations @RT_2b_NP!

Really? What part of Dallas? I pray you get accepted and we can schedule to meet up before school officially starts. Fingers crossed for u.

Cumulative GPA 3.56

Did not submit my GRE scores - waived

1 year hospital experience working in NICU as a newborn hearing screener

Wilderness First Aid current

For those accepted or waitlisted, mind sharing your stats? I applied before Dec 15 deadline and I haven't had a status update yet

Thank you for the info! Do you have an official date for orientation yet? Second week of May-ish?

Decisions for waitlisted applicants are announced as seats become available, up to the first day of orientation. We do not have an exact number of students that we pull from the waitlist each term, it can vary depending on the number of students that apply, are accepted into the program, and/or deposit and enroll by the time orientation begins.

Hi All,

This may be somewhat premature, but i'm considering applying to the program this Fall (to begin next Summer) after I complete the last of the pre-req courses needed.

I came across this thread and would love to know more about your experiences in the application process. Also, for those accepted, if you could offer any insight regarding particular aspects of your app that you may think permitted or encouraged your acceptance. My undergrad is in Religion, after a time in the non-profit sector, i've decided to make the leap into the medical field. Extremely interested in the ABSN + MSN program yet fearful of my lack of experience or relation to the medical field. Any else with a similar background?

I plan on volunteering over the next few months before my app is submitted but would love any advice you have to offfer!

Also, is anyone aware of the acceptance rate?

Hi enic3. Good to hear that u are from Dallas. Fingers crossed for u. I hope that u get accepted too so that we embark on this journey together.

It is a good thing that u have started getting ready for the next application cycle. The application process took about 15 to 20mins. No LORs or Essays. While it seems easy and convenient, it can also decrease ur chances of getting in because u only have your GPA and resume to prove how good of a candidate you are.

The most inportant thing for me was my resume because that is the only way they get to know you. Pay close attention to things that will make u stand out like leadership roles (if you have any), volunteer activities, any research and healthcare experience and so on. They need to know what u are interested in and what u are capable of doing based on ur resume.

Looking at the stats of waitlisted applicants, there is no doubt that this application cycle has a lot of good students, so it will help a lot of u have a high GPA. In regards to prereqs, it depends. I completed mine before I applied, while some had about 2-3 classes remaining. Make sure that u have taken some science classes so that they can determine your ability to handle such courses. The more prereqs you complete, the greater your chances of being accepted.

Apply early. There are different app deadlines. Some of us received acceptance before the first deadline. Because this is a rolling admission, you are less likely to be accepted if you apply late no matter how competitive you are because spots fill quickly. Start now to get ur healthcare experience/volunteer. Don't wait till the last minute. Good luck

I found out about my acceptance into ABSN+ MSN for family nurse practitioner track on November 15th (which was their first "official" admission notification date) and my biggest advice is to APPLY EARLY. My stats are weaker than many others who have been admitted, and I really think that applying early played a huge role in my admission. I believe their application window opens as early as July and they begin notifying applicants as early as August. Since they do not require LORs, you really are in full control of when your application is submitted and ready to be reviewed. Just make sure you plan taking/sending your GRE in advance, since that takes time. When I called last summer and asked them how many applications they received during the previous cycle, they said they received anywhere from 1,000-2,000 applications. But remember, you'd be competing against a number that's significantly smaller than that if you apply early, so do it! With that said, you should know that they can also put applicants on the waitlist even if they do apply early.

For those of you who made up their mind about attending Emory, how are you handling your finances? Although their website states that ABSN and MSN each cost $60,000, it's misleading because apparently that cost does not include a summer semester. I e-mailed the financial aid advisor directly to find out that the tuition+fees for the ABSN alone costs $87,000! Double that amount to get the total for ABSN+MSN and you end up with almost $180,000, and that's not even including the living expenses! Yikes. I nearly hurled when I first saw that number. I did not get any merit scholarships, although I did get a few-thousand- dollar grant per year.

The price is scary. I received my financial aid package and the grant left me speechless. I am waiting to hear back in regards to merit scholarship. I received an email about it but the office of admission told me that I will know exactly what I am being offered by end of the month. I am just hoping for the best because I don't know how I can afford it. I guess we will just hang in there till month end.

i'm really curious about those that are serious about attending the absn/msn program. how do you feel about taking $87k in student loans for a bachelor's degree? how do you justify to yourself that paying THAT much is okay when you can go to a private school for half that cost (or less!)? trust me, i'm not trying to be rude. i'm also thinking a lot about this, and i don't want to regret years down the road being burdened by all this debt. let's think of ourselves post-graduation when it's time to pay back these loans, and we're ~$200k in debt. (i mean, people ask me if i'm going to medical school with how much this is costing, and i'm like... lol ikr)

I'm curious about this as well. I've been talking the numbers over with some friends, and they are all wide-eyed when I tell them someone said it'd be about $180k (for TWO years!) BEFORE living expenses
