Nursing Students Chamberlain College

Published

I am starting online RN-BSN via Chamberlain College of Nursing from July. Just wondering if any nurses out there who will be starting the program or in the program>

Any suggestion/idea is appreciated as it will be my first online program...........

Thank you!!!!

Unfortunately we can't post faculty names in the discussions .... I also had a tough time with Econ. I'm glad I took it by itself -- I busted my tail to get an A in that class! I think it helped to review all the live lectures and PowerPoints that my instructor provided, and I did the required reading until I thought my head might explode. Blech. Out of all the classes I've had to take, Econ has probably been the most difficult because it was mostly unfamiliar territory.

Specializes in Case Management, Home Care, ICU, BMT,.

I'll be starting Community Health on 4/26. Can anybody tell me what it's like? Thanks.

Community health was easy for me I am a community health nurse. I did not even have to crack the book open. It was one my favorite start getting ideas on a big paper at the end on something that effects your community.

How long does the paper have to be? And what other requirements are there? I'm currently in case management, but have done a lot of home care/community health stuff in the past.

I am in community health nursing at this time last 2 weeks its not bad but I was surprised to find out you have to visit 4 community facilities and interview a nurse for the final project, a power point presentation was due in week 6 and 2 papers plenty of discussion, but so far it has not been the hardest class that I have taken.

Good luck.

I agree it is tough mostly because it was unfamiliar. I have an A so far but I spend my life at the library working on just this class. It is crazy but almost done. I start studying for the final tomorrow. Told my family don't expect to see me, fend for yourselves LOL! I agree review the live lectures, power points that go with each chapter, the chapter tests really help too.

As to community health it was a really easy class, two main papers, one power point project and the experiential learning sheet at the end. Simple stuff. You'll like it.

Since I took this session off I'm taking 2 classes Spring B, 3 classes Summer A and 2 Summer B. I will graduate October if all goes well.

Now I'm a little worried about the Economics class. ;-\

I'm starting Cultural Diversity (again) this next session. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had to do two papers, a PowerPoint, and an experiential learning project when I did NR442 (in addition to the weekly discussions, of course). The two papers were epidemiology part 1 (Week 3) and part 2 (Week 4) -- part 1 was examining a public health problem, part 2 was examining an agency that deals with whatever issue you described in part 1. The PowerPoint (due in Week 6) was an intervention and evaluation of a public health issue in the local area. The syllabus described that as a "paper," but our assignment ended up being a PowerPoint -- mine was about 20 slides. The experiential learning project was interesting -- it's due in Week 7, and you have to select and visit four public health agencies in your area and interview a staff nurse. A template is provided with questions. I interviewed a school nurse, a SANE nurse, a free clinic nurse, and a parish nurse. I really liked this class, overall.

ex navy girl,

cultural diversity wasn't too bad, my big paper at the end interested me a lot more than I thought it would. The instructor had a few kwirky "projects" but overall it was not a bad class ... it does have to potential to become heated. The worst part was the online book - I hate those things give me a physical book any day.

The book I have for econ is online and I find it impossible to read - so that resource is not of much help to me...

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

I also bought an "Econ for Dummies" book, but I don't mind reading books on my computer, so I didn't mind the Econ e-text too much. I thought it was written in a fairly accessible manner, too -- not too jargon-ish.

Yep I have the ssame econ for dummies book.

I see that you are an ED nurse also, I have been in the ed for 11 months now - I love it, but it is a small community hospital and I would love to be in a level one trauma hospital ... maybe once I get my NP in acute Care.:yeah:

I'm in a freestanding ED, which can be interesting ... we get everything from strokes to STEMIs to traumas, and we're the only stroke-certified freestanding ED in the state. :D It rocks! I suppose a Level I would be great, but I'm happy where I am for now. When I was a medic student, I did clinicals for a few semesters at our Level I, and it was controlled chaos. :) But our ED doesn't have the resources that an attached hospital provides, so it really fosters teamwork ... I love it!
