Elizabeth Warren says doctors, nurses don't treat black women same way as other women

Published

Is it bash medical professions month and I just didn't realize it?

Don't get me wrong I do believe that prejudice exists but according to Ms. Warren, the only concievable reason for the increased materials deaths in African American women is due to doctors and nurses being prejudice. This is absolutely ludicrous.

She is a proven fool

Since everyone is missing the point: Allow me to clarify it.

What is Health care?

A patient, waiting in a room..scared, anxious, and a person (Nurse, or a MD, or a CNA, or SW) approaching that patient.

THAT person, is "health care" for the patient. THAT moment, can be the whole of health care for the patient.

What Elizabeth Warren said, is not only disgusting but as I see, plays the rhetoric that there is a evil force here in this nation, that is out to get minorities.

I, as a MINORITY, whose race has been SENT TO CONCENTRATION CAMPS in this nation--get that? CONCENTRATION CAMPS, HERE, in the U.S.A..where no other Americans would stick out for us when that happened.

cry foul at such a statement or anyone that thinks there is a higher force here in this nation in the current age that is out to get minorities.

What Elizabeth Warren has done, is lay accusation to us, professionals, that we all practice with prejudice against minorities.

Let me repeat that.

We ALL practice with prejudice against minorities--is what Elizabeth is claiming.

And people are defending her.

Now, watch some fool use words that it was not a concentration camp, but a internment camp.

Let's see. A group of population, not based by nationality (they were Americans) but because of the heritage and color of their skin were stripped of all their belongings except what they could carry--and was placed by force, in a concentrated area.

Something tells me you didn't research these healthcare disparities, rather, you are still stuck on the messenger and not the message...

Healthcare disparities, does not happen with me.

I am providing my patients with health care.

I am health care, for my patients. The people that are associated with me, the MDs, the CNAs, lab techs, are also "health care" for our patients.

WE do not practice with prejudice.

Elizabeth and her research, claims that ALL medical personnel, are prejudiced.

Sadly, these disparities and research have been going on longer than the messenger's career. It would behoove you to remove your pride and political affiliations to get the best of your practice by researching the message at hand.

We were all programed with prejudices, take accountability.

I think we might be feeding a troll at this point.

Oh yes. Automatically, I become a "troll" because I won't buy into your rhetoric.

Must be that evidence based logic claiming systemic Prejudice exists in action.

I wouldn't say "automatically." This has been a downward progression since at least yesterday.

That systemic prejudice must be so real.

I'm just a mere "minority," a "troll according to you."

That just laughs at your rhetoric. And I'm FROM Massachusetts.

I point to the part where I'm saying, let us "assume" that I agree with you.

You can't control bias. There will always be people that decide to be biased, or prejudiced, or racist. It's their choice.

I'd be the first one to cry out foul if I saw a Hospital actually practice, as a whole entity, with prejudice or bias. Trust me on that one.

What we need to do, is not simply point the finger at a supposed "racism" that is happening somewhere but instead go back to the nursing process.

Assess the variables.

Which population was involved? Which doctors and nurses, and which hospitals? Which diagnoses and comorbidities? What was the lifestyle of the patient and what age group? Smokers or nonsmokers? Alcohol users or non users? What was their discharge plans? How were the discharge plans carried out? Where was the followup? etc.

So many variables..and Elizabeth Warren decides to point the finger. Bam! That's it. It's the health care system! The nurses and the doctors! She saw a few case studies so that explains the entire picture.

This is why such news got my blood boiling a little bit. It was really offensive.

Much, if not most of bias found in the research is unconscious bias, which is controllable at least to some degree by making the person aware of it, since then it's no longer unconscious.

As an example, one study found that given the same indications for diuretics in otherwise comparable heart failure patients there were physicians that were far less likely to prescribe diuretics to non-white patients. This is likely due to an unconscious awareness that some non-white groups are more likely to decline recommenced medications, so the physician unconsciously inhibits their prescribing. Making the physician aware of their unconscious habits can help mitigate the problem.

Neither Warren not the research claims that "all" medical personnel are prejudiced, maybe you could clarify what you're basing that on.
