Electrical cord inside the Foley, pt from ICU

Updated:   Published

I have a pt from an ICU of an unfamiliar facility that has an indwelling Foley catheter with an electrical cord embedded in one of the ports. The terminal end of the electrical cord looks like the male jack of stereo headphones. The cord appears to be embedded in a hard plastic plug that was inserted into the secondary port of the Foley.

What is this cord for? I am guessing a temperature probe, indwelling real-time UA analyzer?

Thanks!

I connected my phone to the jack and played music, after auscultating all over her ABD/lady parts and hearing no music I figured it must be somethig like a tempt probe or UA analyzer.

Thanks!

I do think you're on to something here... this could be very useful in OB to give babies something to listen to while they're waiting to be born!

I believe OP is related to my husband, I laughed my a$$ off, he runs heavy equipment but sees things differently than most. Thanks for the laugh.

I can just see a doc walking in while you are doing an assesment with headphones on plugged into the pt's lady parts.

ROFL That has got to be the funniest thing I have ever read.

Silly nurse, lady partss don't listen to music. :D

Now let me get this straight...there was what looked like a headphone jack plugged into the foley port; that indicates that you would plug your headphones in and listen to either the bladder or the lady parts, right?

Now, what kind of music would you expect to hear from the bladder - perhaps something by The Cranberries? Or maybe Muddy Waters? Even some Abba singing "Waterloo"?

The lady parts might play you "Sweet Dreams are made of this", or perhaps "Stairway to Heaven"......hmmmm, "Yellow Submarine"....? No, I don't think we want to get onto the subject of seamen and submarines! :lol2:

You could pipe this in through the headphone jack.

Even if it was a headphone jack, wouldn't it make more sense that it listened to her urethra or bladder??? Because i don't see why a foley would be inserted into the lady parts....

thanks for the anatomy lesson debbie downer  *sad tuba*

kidding. im pretty sure everyone knows that you wouldn't put a foley into a lady parts but it sounds funnier than urethra or bladder. comedic license.

My lady parts heard about your patient's lady parts getting music and she is pretty ticked. She is writing up her list of demands as I type. lol

Great thread. lol

This reminds me of the Southpark episode with Oprah's minge. Where it gets angry because it was not getting any then starts wielding a gun. Freaking hilarious.

The episode was "A Million Little Fibers"
