i know some of us have received our letters so i was wondering who else i will be making this journey with for the next 2 years.

my name is allison shaffer and it's nice to meet you. i know we will all be close because it's a small group. it would be nice to get to know some of you before november 17. :)

Thanks for the info Amy! I will pass that along to my friend. She will have to take at least one more class since she has CLEP'd a class.

I took HPRS 1204 Basis Skills to get into the Surg Tech program at El Centro. I didn't really feel ready for a CNA after it, but I did feel ready for the CNA after the second class in the series Advance skills (HPRS???)

So I wonder if they are going to make HPRS 1204 a pre-req or something you take the summer before after this pilot program runs it's course?

No NET??? Wow... Well they just started requiring the NET less than 4 years ago so....

:rotfl: Well....that was the 'nicest' version I could come up with the time. :chuckle

We actually went fishing Friday night at the State Park...from about 3 PM to 10 PM. It was VERY relaxing!!! :D I love fishin'!

I made myself not even mention school. Everytime I thought about something that had to do with school, I told myself not to say it out loud. :chuckle

No Chick-fil-A though, we ate hot dogs & smores cooked on the campfire. :balloons:

I bought a Core Concepts in Pharmacology book with CD. I may not take the class, but at least I'll have a background knowledge before starting in August. :)

Thanks to all of you for your support! I really need the confidence boosters!

Mysterious_one, did you receive a book list in your acceptance packet?

Specializes in ante/postpartum, baby RN.

Guys, Spring 2006 grades are on eConnect today. I have just checked mine. My GPA went down to 3.9

Thanks Sunny. :D

I don't know what specialty I would like to do. Right now I am interested in perioperative nursing but some weeks ago I liked med-surg, too. ;)

Would you like to go to Parkland?

Yeah, I would like Parkland at least for a year or two. As crappy as the hospital looks, for some reason I am drawn to that place. I did a clinical rotation in the OR there. Will it was not fancy, I learned a lot. Burn surgery, ears, eyes, neuro, ortho, vascular, general, dental, plastics, trauma. I got to scrub it all in one place and sometimes in the same week!

I think it would be great to do an internship in the burn ICU at Parkland. The Parkland burn protocol is legendary.

Children's was cool too!

As badly as I was treated by Group One, I really hope I can get a chance to come back to Dallas and work as a nurse. I miss it.

Again, CONGRATS on the awesome GPA!

 Let's all cry with Katie! :chuckle

If mine goes down, I'd love for it to only drop to 3.9!!!! Way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats!

I'd like perioperative too, but I'm also very interested in post-op. :) After 18 surgeries....it's all home away from home. :chuckle

Wow, I didn't know that you had those surgeries. I hope you are doing well. :)

Katie

I'm stumped to. Right know its a toss up between PACU, OR or ICU. I'm kinda tired of plain OR but if I could get a joint OR/PACU internship I might consider it. A couple of people have tolD me that PACU like folks with ICU experience. I could see why.

Hehe Katie better do some celebrating with that 3.9!

I'll provide the drinks----->  :biere:

Not to much celebrating though, 'cause we sure don't want you doing this--->:barf01:

I'm fine, ty. :balloons: I was born with a cleft lip/palate & I've had 18 plastic/reconstructive surgeries. :)

Thank you Fun! Correct, Pharm and Patho are not required and those accepted for Spring '07 and Fall '07 do not have to take them as well. They just integrated them into the lecture classes - whatever lecture class you have will have the pharm and pthao that goes along with what you are studying at the time. She indicated that they do not wish to change that. So that would be no different than it has been. She didn't mention anything about CNA license with the HPRS 1204. She just said that people taking that class will get alot more skills practice and would be at an advantage for having that.

When you say, that pharm and patho are intergrated into the program, does that mean we don't have to take them, and that those accepted for Spring '07 or Fall '07 would?

Thanks for your help, and I wish you the best of luck of second semester. I think now you know what to expect, and what is required of you. Not many people could do it and work too. Pat yourself on the back. :)
