Amy - From what I understand, those two classes are incorporated into the other nursing classes. They are just thinking of breaking them out so that nursing students can take them ahead of time.

Specializes in Operating Room.
I just can't seem to function if I am not busy doing something all the time.

Oh boy....am I the same way!

I'd be taking a Summer I class, if not a Maymester, if it weren't for my $ needing to go toward uniforms and other personal stuff. (I am taking STATS during Summer II though.) I also really have to have time to study conversions & dosage calculations.

Specializes in ante/postpartum, baby RN.
She's awesome!!!! I'm taking her this summer... she works for THR (Resource Faculty) and she is very interesting and bubbly!! If you have any other questions, let me know.

She is the one who wrote those great pharma review packets that one can find on eCampus, isn't she?

Folks, for the sake of people's privacy, PLEASE do not post personal contact info (especially that of other people) on the board. Please PM it - thanks for understanding!

Does Pharmacology also teach you dose calculations or is there a separate class that teaches dose calculations? I just bought me a Dosage Calculations (2002) book from Half Price Books for $9.98 - the thing looks brand new and even has a CD that has never even been opened. I just wonder if I will be able to self teach with this book since I have no previous experience or background with dose calculations.

I went to Half Price Books this afternoon. I picked up the latest edition of Mosby's 'Nursing Care Plans' book for $14.98. I was pretty sure this was the same book that I had on my Amazon.com wish list and it was! The book is in like new condition and is listed at Amazon.com for $47.95. It still has the price sticker on the back that says $44.95. Lucky me...the store got it in sometime this month and I know it wasn't there 2 weeks ago when I went.

The other day in class a girl asked me what renal meant! I know for sure some of these people don't know their A&P!!! How do you almost complete first semester and NOT know what renal means????????????? Isn't it good to know some really good candidates were turned away for someone who obviously cheated their way through A&P......it's disgusting.

I don't think that's really fair, people do forget things and there is such a thing as a brain fart. Things slip my mind all the time.

hey! just browsing the site and saw your reply......well said! Nothing personal against those who are making fun/criticising others (re:renal), but as a third semester nursing student who has survived the first two, let me tell all of those who are quick to judge others that when I returned for second semester after starting with the normal 50, we had EXACTLY 29 LEFT! These were ALL students who made straight "A's" on thier prereq's (A&P included), and were dedicated, disciplined, hard-working students. What those who aren't in the program will ever know until/if they get in is HOW DIFFERENT nursing school is from the memorize/puke it out formula of A/P, Micro, Algebra, etc....I would say straight off the bat that the BEST way to make sure you have a MISERABLE time in nursing school is to create a personality that is EXCLUSIVE in it's nature......that's not to say that you need to share all of your work, or to do work for others, but I can also tell you that out of the 40 students in second semester (with 11 repeats from the semester before) that 31 of them were FAILING after the second test!!!! We decided that it was best to help each other out w/studying and insight so that we ALL would progress. I remember when I was waiting for my letter of acceptence......I knew it all and had it all figured out. It is a bit like having kids....you can tell people all you want, but until they go through it themselves, you're really wasting your breath. But I wish everyone luck anyway, and would gladly answer any questions re: the ECC program that anyone might have! Good luck, and have a great Summer!

BTW, on the CRNA path, as well! good luck!

Please see my response to crnasomeday25. I've read your posts re:"renal" and can only offer this......humility and understanding will get you MILES in this program AND in life! Don't mean to preach, but you're obviously bright and hard-working......I'm 38, 2 kids, work full time, and in third semester ECC nursing........does that make me special? nope. Lucky. Lucky to have a supportive wife (financially, too), and the ability to get by on an average of 3 hrs sleep ALL THE TIME!. Some people can't do what we do, so I would advise you to practice "benifit of the doubt" thinking........you really don't know how anyone else navigates through this life until you've walked in thier shoes.............I wish you all the luck.

Although I don't know anyone on here personally yet, I doubt the complaint about the student not knowing 'renal' was deliberately making fun of that student.

Some people you just know the personality, and personally see their dedication, or lack there of. Maybe saying they 'cheated through A&P' is going too far, and that's why I posted what I did in response.

As I posted before, I know I have forgotten so much from A&P 1 since Spring '05, and almost a year since A&P 2. I sure don't want anyone thinking I cheated!

Amy,

are you accepted for El centro or NL. I am for El Centro and my papers said that this book Calculation of Drug Dosages from Caroline Janney & Jane Flahive, is required. Is this the one you got at Halfprice Books. You might need t check back on your papers . I think it was on the sheet with the scheduling examples.
