i know some of us have received our letters so i was wondering who else i will be making this journey with for the next 2 years.
my name is allison shaffer and it's nice to meet you. i know we will all be close because it's a small group. it would be nice to get to know some of you before november 17. :)
I to prefer a GPA only admissions criteria to a Points criteria. I've seen some wacko points-systems that would make you cringe.
If they have a problem with folks not knowing A&P maybe they should develop and advanced A&P for nursing students. A good idea would be to make the pre-reqs similar to the classes needed for the BSN completion at UTA or other schools in the Metroplex.
If stops qualified students from getting knocked out of the running, I'm all for it. There is NO reason for 15 4.0 studnets being left out. Even the 3.77 (one B) is sad.
I sure hope they can squeze extra money out of the education budget to expand the program.
I'm not sure a points system is the correct either, so don't get me wrong there.
I'm just looking at the whole picture. If someone had a 4.0 on their pre-reqs & a 2.0 GPA on all 17 credits of the support courses, that person really shouldn't beat out somoene with a 3.77 on their pre-reqs & a 4.0 GPA on all 17 credits of the support courses.
This is just a 'for instance', it didn't happen (to my knowledge.) However, looking at it this way, someone with 4 A's and 5 C's could easily beat out someone with 8 A's and one B.
Anyway, I am a strong believer that for whatever reason, I was not suppose to get in for Spring. So, I'm right where I belong, when I belong.
But.....If you extend the number of pre-reqs, and keep the GPA application process, it tightens the contest. This is actually a good thing. Soon there will be so many 4.0 students getting turned away that students will be turned off by this program & not even try to get in.
The other day in class a girl asked me what renal meant! I know for sure some of these people don't know their A&P!!! How do you almost complete first semester and NOT know what renal means????????????? Isn't it good to know some really good candidates were turned away for someone who obviously cheated their way through A&P......it's disgusting.
Oh, but about A&P - I wish there was standardized test to make sure we all knew the same stuff coming out. After talking to people who took classes at different places or even through different teachers, it sounds like it can take very little effort to get an A sometimes. That frustrates me because I worked HARD for my A, and there were very few As in my class.
There's no way I cheated through A&P, and I finished A&P 1 with over a 100! I can say, in this past year, I have forgotten so much. I will also have to spend my summer using my Powerpoint quizzes to review.
(Yes, I know what renal means.) :chuckle
That's another problem, having to wait a year (or more) after A&P, how could you not forget a bunch of it?

Oh wow! There have been a couple of times someone has ask a question that they should have already known the answer to. It really is amazing. I can understand forgetting some A&P but forgetting what renal is???

Exactly, renal is a pretty easy term to remember.
I agree there should be a 'district test' & a 'district book'.
I busted my butt in A&P 1. I made flash cards, read chapters, taped lectures, took notes, retyped notes, listened to taped lectures, read the typed notes while recording myself & listed to the CD in my truck everytime I got in. I went in about 2 hours early & went to the science resource room to study with a couple of other students. I took pics, made quizzes, and was constantly studying.
We did get curves in A&P 1, but I set the 1st two lecture curves & the first two lab exams. Actually, the 1st lab exam didn't offer a curve b/c I made a 100.
Even without the curve, I'd still have finished with a high A.
So, what I'm saying is that you just never know the situation.
Maybe an A&P review class during the program would help?
So does this mean that those of us applying before August to be accepted in Spring 2007 will have to take Patho and Pharm before we can apply? It sure does look like they would have included this in the "packet" or would have revised the packet to include this. I just want to cry! It's Friday night and I am going to an information session at El Centro on Monday morning. I hope they aren't just going to throw this in there by sticking a paper on the door. This seems so unfair to let people know this way.
Here it is 2:20 am and I am so worried about this that I can't even sleep. I know I will have my butt up bright and early (if I ever do fall asleep) so I can go to EC and read the paper myself.

Amy, you will find out everything on Monday. Please, don't worry about it now. And let us know what happened at the info session.

Yes, make sure you let us know what happends at the info session. I have good friends wanting to get into EC/NL in the near future. They would go ahead and take those classes online or this summer.

But how much notice do they have to give us of changes to the requirements?
