i know some of us have received our letters so i was wondering who else i will be making this journey with for the next 2 years.
my name is allison shaffer and it's nice to meet you. i know we will all be close because it's a small group. it would be nice to get to know some of you before november 17. :)
A 2nd semester teacher came and talked to us today. She told us to study the pharmacology list in our clinical syllabus over the summer. If anyone doesn't have the list, please let me know and I can scan it to your email. She said it's not all of the drugs but she strongly encouraged us to learn them. There are about 80 on this list but there will be a total of 150 to learn for the pharm test which will be 30 questions (as far as I know about ECC).
I don't know if the list will help but I am sure learning them couldn't hurt.
We also had our 2. semester instructor. She told us that we would use three books: James pediatric, Watermilk (spelling?) OB, Lewis Med Surg. But the med surg book will be changed for Funnie's class, probably. We are going to rotate hospitals/instructors because most hospitals has no both L&D and pedi and clinical instructors don't teach all.
We have to start working on our readings this summer. The reading lists and the drug cards for the big pharma test (week 10?) will be on eCampus. Key's pharma book is our PharmaBible. Allison, that list is from the purple papers at the clinical handbook, isn't it?
She also told us to get ready our immunizations with TB and CPR papers. Hospitals want to see it next semester.
I hope I am going to make it. I hope we all are going to make it to second semester. :)

Edit:
I have talked to Mr. M. about the pilot program. He told me that he would teach it during the summer for 1. semester students. It will be mostly PCT and clinical skills stuff. Student will be able to start clinicals earlier and have less skills to learn during the fall semester thus more time to study lecture. It sounds good, but they've never had this class before. I hope everything is going to be fine. :)
Katie,Is that list going to be available only to 2.semester, or where the other things are available for download (Pharm packet, etc)?
Is the purple papers/clinical handbook given to us at orientation?
So, did Mr. M say whether or not it was only for ECC students?
The pilot program is only for ECC students.
The clinical handbook will be given to you all after orientation on the first or second day of class.
Pharm packet is on eCampus/SNA/student resources/pharm review.
Drug list is in clinical handbook.
But don't worry about drugs now. Enjoy summer. :)

I don't know about the people at NL but at EC they encourage you to buy a syllabus and I can almost officially say that it was the biggest waste of my money. I hardly ever opened it.....but maybe if I had opened it I would be making an A right now lol. I just wanted to pass the info along because I thought it was a ridiculous purchase.
Most of the books remain the same throughout the 2 years with the addition of one or two more each semester.
Katie- that one book is by Lowdermilk and it's called Maternity & Women's Healthcare (8th edition) the other book by James is called Nursing Care of Children Principles and Practice. Then the other books we have already...She told us to study IV calculations too...
