i know some of us have received our letters so i was wondering who else i will be making this journey with for the next 2 years.

my name is allison shaffer and it's nice to meet you. i know we will all be close because it's a small group. it would be nice to get to know some of you before november 17. :)

Specializes in Med/Surg, Tele.
I bought the skills pack from the bookstore for my skills lab. It had everything that we used so I didn't have to go to different stores to buy additional items. But there were no watch and stethoscope in the pack. It had thermo covers, dressings, alcohol swabs, sterile gloves, clean gloves, foley kit, straight cath. kit, and tape. I bought my steth with penlight, scissors and visavis pen from the student nurse association. And I use my own watch.

What hospital will you go for clinicals?

Katie

I am not sure yet, the choices are Charlton Meth., Presby, and VA. Can you give me some more info on student nurse association, how do i reach them , where are they?

I think it's somewhat different at EC and NL. I am sure that there is somebody at EC who can help you with SNA. We had some members of the SNA at our orientation at NL. On my eCampus site I have a link to the SNA website.

There are 2 separate SNA chapters for each school. I can help you if you want info regarding El Centro. For NL, they have a link on ecampus with their contact info. If you don't have access to ecampus try the NL website. There should be a link.

For either school, you join the NSNA on-line ($30) and then pay a $5 chapter membership to the school.

At El Centro, we provide mentors for anyone who is interested. They can assist if you feel you are having difficulty with a certain topic or just your study techniques in general. The senior officers/members recommend study tips and books that might be helpful. We also have recruiters from the hospitals speak at SNA meetings. Most of freshmen officers just found jobs b/c of the last recruiter. If you have any question about El Centro just let me know.

You have to search for it under Community, but here's the link:

Remember this is for NLC, but maybe they could help you out.

Specializes in OR Internship starting in Jan!!.

Fun - Do you think it is worth joining the student group? Did you join?

I haven't joined yet money-wise, but I definitely will!!! :) I have joined the website group. The website isn't extremely clear, so I don't know what steps to take. (I really haven't taken the time to figure it out yet.)

If it doesn't help me, in the future it may help someone. .....So, all the more reason to join, and plus, they do charity donations. Better to give my money to the NSNA & NLC's chapter, than to the local convenience store. :rotfl:

I want to join a alpha beta phi delta sigma chi group. :rotfl: I remember in high school I always looked for my potential colleges' nursing sorority.

I actually got accepted to UTA back then, but couldn't go because of finances. I would drive around UTA looking at all the frat/sorority houses. :chuckle
