i know some of us have received our letters so i was wondering who else i will be making this journey with for the next 2 years.
my name is allison shaffer and it's nice to meet you. i know we will all be close because it's a small group. it would be nice to get to know some of you before november 17. :)
I know of at least NLC 3rd semester and 4th semester lectures are online this semester...there's only a 2 hour case study/review to go to each week.
Good for me (I hope), bad for those who can't learn that way.
Where are your clinicals now, and who is your teacher, that sure does sound like heaven. Does every fourth semester teacher do that, or just yours? And where is Methodist building a new hospital?
Sorry, I'm asking to many questions
I think most of the 4th semester clinical teachers don't believe in doing careplans anymore but they still require a major but it's only about one page. Our teacher says that as an RN you don't have the luxury of learning about your patients for 12 hours the day before so she needs to stop that habit. Hey I'm all for it!!!!!!
I found out last night at work that Methodist is building their hospital in McKinney as a specialty hospital with only 15 beds so it may not be somewhere I would like to transfer or would be able to transfer The hospital is at the corner of Eldorado and Stonebridge Ranch.
After all the changes they did to our group I am ready for everything. If they tell me tomorrow that I have to go to Waxahachie for clinical and Oklahoma exit 1 for management class I won't be surprised.
I know exactly what you're talking about!!!!!!!! what happened to this semester?! We lost 2 teachers and one of them was mine!! I was really nervous about who I would get but she wound up being wonderful (so far!!!!). We JUST found out when our clinical would be for the semester. It's ok for me but there are some people who had planned childcare around the schedule we had known since JUNE and I felt bad for them because not only did the days change but the hours completely changed. We were supposed to be 6:45a-4p Saturday and Sunday at Presby Dallas. Now we're 2:45p-midnight Wed and Thursday at Medical City Dallas. CRAZINESS!!!!
We will get through this Katie!!
We still have our original clinical instructor, who is supposed to be a very nice lady, but we have never met her. No email, no phones, no contact, nada. We were informed via friendly "unofficial" email from ECC that our clinical site has changed. No info from instructor.
On Monday we were told that our lectures would be online. I know that it has advantages but I would prefer going to NLC.
We have never met our psych clinical instructor. We also didn't get the psych papers. We go to Terrell next week and do orientation on Tuesday, sleep there and have clinical on Wednesday. But we have no papers, no dormitory arrangement, no contact with instructor, nada again.
I guess I should write something positive now. Ohh... we are going to graduate soon. :balloons: And we are going to be excellent and FLEXIBLE RN-s. Katie
Katie-
Do you have Anderson for psych? If so- she's incredibly sweet. I never heard from her either before psych. She's been busy all summer out at Terrell and I'm sure she thinks it will all be figured out. Or if you have O'Meara then you're going to be alright too. Your living arrangements there will be taken care of. As long as they know you're staying there then you're fine! I stayed out there too and my advice is bring your own pillow and a lot of padding for the beds!!!!! hahaha. Those beds were awful....and bring an alarm clock because they don't have them....it was fun though and we went out to eat and watched tv and just stayed up and giggled all night
I'm finishing my psych this coming Thursday...there is so much freaking paperwork for psych!!!! My suggestion is to get it all done as soon as you can. You and your partner pick a patient and create basically a major careplan. Then there were all of these papers....you have to attend a 12 step meeting and write about it...you have to write about a personal experience that helped you understand human behavior...you have to write a process recording...you have to attend a class with your "client" and write about it...I suggest music or drama! It was so much fun!!! I can't remember the other assignments but there are way too many in my opinion....
FYI- sign up for floor 8- it's for the criminally insane!!!!! Everyone was fighting for it but there were ultimately only 2 students who could go to that floor. Unfortunately- I wasn't one of them. I wound up on K2- an ALL MALE admissions unit so they're way off of their meds and there's always something to see. They loooooove female nursing students........
IT'S ALL GOING TO BE ALRIGHT Yes- it makes us very flexible.

Thanks Allison for the helpful info. I don't have any psych form so it's hard to start doing the paperwork. I guess I can start writing my personal essay. I have another question. What is process recording? I don't remember ever reading about it. Also, what's the deadline to submit all psych paperwork?

I am back from Terrell and I liked it very much. It was so different than what I envisioned. The staff was very nice and we had a chance to meet patients with "interesting" diagnoses. We even saw a atypical ECT and a typical ECT. If I had to choose between med-surg or psych I would choose psych nursing now. What a difference one semester can make. :nurse:Katie
