El Centro/ Northlake Nursing Spring 2014

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello all! I'm new here and have not seen a post for El Centro spring 2014. I was originally planning to apply for fall 2014, however I just heard that the point system and prerequisites have been revised! Now I will be able to apply for this spring! I don't know if I will get in, but its worth a shot! Anyone else applying for spring 2014?

I am also applying to Brookhaven and TWU. Doubt I will get in to either if those programs but I figured it was worth a shot.

Hopefully this 6 weeks go by fast since now I've been hired as a PCT at Methodist Dallas. Can we say tuition reimbursement?!

What do you need to be able to become a PCT?

You either need your CNA license, be a medical assistant or CMA, or previous PCT experience. Also if you're in your first semester of nursing school they consider that qualified also.

Thanks for the info :)

Just wanted to say good luck to everyone! I wasnt able to apply for the spring so I am going back to my origional plan of applying for Fall2014! This way my application will be stronger. Anyway, I will be keeping an eye on this thread to see how ya'll did!

BrittanyH- Did you have previous experience as a CNA before getting a job as a PCT? I have been seriously considering going through a CNA program. I fould one that is only 3 weeks long, but will that get me a job right away?

What happened? I'm sure that you will get in for the fall! Where did you find a 3 week CNA program?

My Grandmother passed away right in the middle of my summer classes. It threw me for a loop. I got distracted and did not get everything finished in time. :crying2: now I have sooooooo loooooooong to wait! lol On the bright side, I have plenty of time to take and re-take the hesi to get the full 12 points. lol

^^^There is the website with the 3 week CNA program. I want to do it but i am going to look around at other programs as well!

Here is a site that lists almost all CNA programs in the area. (DADS)

ALSO, has anyone heard of an Anesthesia tech? There is an opening at a nearby hospital and it says that you do not need any training. All you need is a Highschool diploma or GED. Does anyone know what this job is all about?

Specializes in Neuro/EMU, Pediatrics, Med Surg.

jetergirl20-anesthesia techs assist anesthesiologists; most places require some sort of experience or knowledge/training so if you saw a job post requiring no experience then yes! apply!! What a great opportunity to learn some cool stuff!!

You don't NEED your CNA to be a pct. I don't have one and I have been a tech for about 2 years. I did graduate as a medical assistant so I had medical training and externship experience. Some hospitals are super strict on preferring a CNA and others will take other factors into consideration. If I were you, I would try other hospital jobs, like a unit secretary. It gives you experience and insight into the different kinds of areas. Plus you will meet people and make friends; most places let you apply internally after 6 months of employment.

But definitely get some work experience under your belt, that way you have an idea of what you are getting yourself in to ;-)

Good luck!!

...5 more weeks to go!...

I really wish they would go by the October 15 date I read! That's on the health occupations nd admissions page I think. Turned in my application yesterday for Brookhaven so that's finally done! Now it's all just a waiting game! Hopefully this week will go by fast, we have a garage sale next weekend I need to get ready for! What else is everyone up to?
