Please say a little prayer for my sweet kitty, Pickles. I took him to the vet today and received a tragic diagnosis. He has feline leukemia and feline infectious peritonitis. No treatment...his labs looked awful and his organs are in failure. He had all his vaccinations but must have contracted it from his mother at the animal shelter. He is only 9 months old and we are heartbroken. The worst part is he is my 4 year old daughter's kitty. We picked him out at just 6 wks old. She adores him. He is all she talks about day and night. I had to tell her that he was very sick and would not get better. I told her we just have to love him all we can until "the time" he has to go. We have to euthanize him Friday. I have cried til my eyes are swollen. Friday is gonna be terrible. I am just trying to spoil him tons until then...lots of tuna fish and kitty treats.
We love you Pickles!!!!
As a baby...
Just a few weeks ago on the family Christmas card...
I'm sorry to hear about Pickles. They can live a really long time with feline leukemia, but FIP is much worse. Love him as long as you can, and let your daughter know she can love him forever. We had to put our kitty to sleep about a year and a half ago. My daughter was 5. Fortunately, my roommate is a veterinarian, so we were able to do it at home, and my daughter was with her. It helped her to transition from having China, to her being gone. Do you have any other cats? My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Take care and spend lots of time together - take pictures of him with your daughter to help her remember...

I really don't want to have him put down tomorrow. I am so upset about it all. We sat out in the sun today and he just kept rubbing on my leg and purring. And last night I stayed up with him - I was so worried that he would suddenly stop breathing. I am a much bigger mess than my daughter. She cried for a while last night, but seems to be handling things better today. We made a stepping stone with her hand print and his paw prints on it, then we made him a new tag for his collar "Pickles, I Love You" is want my daughter wanted to have engraved on it. We've only had him a short time but have all gotten so attached...this really sucks! I have spent so much time and money making sure he was in great health and would be a forever pet...and now this. Then I've had those cats that never went to the vet once, lived outside, ate mice, etc - and they live forever! Makes no sense.
We'll see how tomorrow is. If he is still happy then I may wait until Saturday. I can't decide. I wasn't planning on having my daughter go to the vet with me. I think she is too young for that. What are y'alls thoughts?
:anmllvr:
Don't go so much by her age, but how she handles things. My daughter was 5 and she was there, but she's been raised in a vet clinic and has more understanding of pet illness and euthanasia. For her, it helped her to deal with losing China. You know your daughter better than anyone. Maybe talk to her about it some more and see how she feels. It really can be peaceful, especially if they put an IV catheter in him first. The vet can even give him a little injectable sedative which will keep him calm. I'll be thinking about you.

Thanks Fun, you didn't miss it.
I had like 3 nervous breakdowns yesterday. I was told that we would be registered for classes if we were readmitted on the 10th and that tuitioni would be due the same day - so as you can imagine, I was checkin ecconnect all freaking day -NOTHING.
So I'm emailing K and trying to call the ofc. trying to get some info- am I in or not, are you guys on another time zone or what. I keep getting the damn automated voicemail system telling me about the move and thank you for being patient...ahhhh, so frustrating.
I finally got an email from K at 4:30 saying that there are some computer issues and that she'll get me registered today.
Freakin hate El Centro right now.
They have given me my first grey hairs!
I would like to end on a positive note and say :w00t: they aren't going to get rid of me that easily! RN here I come!
PS anyone going into 2nd semester at NLC I would love to meet you- I'm going to be missing all my buddies in 3rd, but I'm always up to making new buddies.
Happy FRIDAY!

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!! Congratulations!!!
That's right, don't let anything get you down! You are back on your feet and it's time to start running to the finish line again!
Just think of this as a marathon, not a race. We all get to the finish line, maybe not together, but we all can get there!!!!!!!
...Just another hurdle you've managed to get by!
