C'mon peeps, where are you all? There are posts for every other ECC/NL class. We need our own too.

Anyone else starting in the Fall '07?

HI Bridget,

I am in the Fall 06 group, going into 3rd semester at El Centro. Don't get discouraged if no one is joining you yet. It looks like we have tons of people on our threads but there are really only 3 or 4 per thread. We just keep jumping from thread to thread, and post on all of them and talk to each other. I am sure you are welcome to join in in all of them.

Once you start classes, you just have to advertise for "all nurses" , and invite them here ;) .

I hope I will get to meet you in the Fall. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, PM me, or whatever.

Good luck and have nice summer

Hi Bridget... absolutely more will join. Did you guys already have orientation? If not, tell everyone there to go the website so you can get to know each other before classes start. If there is anything we can do to help, let us know. By the way, book boxes are now available at the ECC campus, so you could go get your books if you're a nerd like me...lol. Good luck!

We have orientation this Friday! And here is how dumb I am...what's a Book Box?

LOL....not dumb at all. They sell all the books in one box that includes the books on CD. You do still have to buy your clinical handbook and syllabus separately. I love the CDs though....much lighter than hauling around books for me. Each semester, they box up the books for it, along with the CDs (it's the only way to get those) and sell it. The first semester is the most expensive at about $535 I believe. 2nd semester is $320 with tax and the last 2 semesters are under $100 he said. I've been harassing the book store manager since about a week after finals and they came in yesterday. I picked mine up this morning! Just let people know about allnurses at your orientation and maybe you can get some folks on here. Let us know how it goes!

but know that if you don't plan on reading your books on the computer you don't have to get the box , you can get your books used on amazon or some other way, if you so choose. That's what I did sec. semester, I bought the box first semester. You will get some extra small reference books, but I never really used the Cd's much. It is up to you. And if you buy the books used you can save about half. Just thought I let you know. You can go on ecampus-bookstore and find out the ISBN numbers of all the books you need and so order them somewhere else, or buy them separate at the EC bookstore, but I believe if you do that, then you won't save as much.

I have been accepted to the El Centro Nursing Program for the Fall. I was wondering about the uniforms, they seem expensive! Can anyone recommend how many pairs to buy? And do you have to wear the ones being sold at orientation or can you get your own?

I got 2 because you usually have either 1 or 2 days of clinicals. They do have to be embroidered so I'd at least get the tops and 1 jacket. The pants you can get anywhere. Congratulations on your acceptance!

Thanks! Also, are there any books that would help me prepare for nursing school, other than the required text? I have to take the HPRS course next month in place of the RNSG 1119. Did you take the HPRS? I'm really scared to start, I don't know what to expect.

This is a skills lab. You will learn some nursing skills and practice them on plastic dummies or on each other. ;)

For lecture tests you will need to practice lots of NCLEX type questions. So it's a good idea to buy some NCLEX practice books. (I also bought a drug book and lab values book). From my 1st semester clinical group nobody failed skills lab or clinicals. But half of them failed lecture. So it's really important to find your way of studying and getting ready for tests.

Also, if you have time you can go back and read our old posts from 2006. There are many good ones there. :)

Thanks for the book advice! Parking in Downtown is really expensive and traffic is bad, I was thinking of taking the train. How do you guys get to school? I have so many questions! I will read the other forums!
