Ugggh...Just know it is survivable!
Kendra had her for clinicals...shoot her an email. Maybe she can be at least someone to vent to. :)
Just show her you know your stuff, and let her teach you what she wants you to learn. She is hard, but I think that makes you more confident in the end.
Of course I got my last pick- Parkland w/ BeechamI've heard all the horror stories - so any advice on how to survive will be much appreciated.
I will comment! I did have Ms. B for 3rd semester. She was extremely hard! Now....with being said.....I should go find her and kiss the ground she walks on. She "taught" us so much it is unbelievable. I breezed through 4th semester like it was nothing. Let me prepare you for ALL the paperwork she gives you. The first couple of weeks you will be in tears everyday you leave the floor. After mid-term she WILL start to treat you like you do know something....but hang in there until then, it is all worth it. She has a specific way of documenting the "Parkland" way......write it EXACTLY like the examples you are given on the "colored" sheets. All this will make sense after the first meeting with her. Oh.....and be prepared to show all documentation relating you your imunizations and make sure they don't just say "immune". She wants doctors letter head if you don't have the proper docs. Now....take a deep breath and get ready for the ride of your life. But like I said......she develops a sense of confidence in each of her students. If you have any questions don't hesitate to email me.
to BEECHAM.....

Thank you all for the comments.
I am happy to be at Parkland- I'm sure I will learn a lot. I have no problems with following directions so I feel I will gest along fine. I have not problem with lots and lots of paperwork- I had Tunnell and Jutte
I am enjoying these last few weeks off- I might start reading in August- but I'm not going to put any pressure on myself- I will do that enough during the semester.
I hope everyone is enjoying their vacations!
I took her in the winter mini-mester and I loved her. She tells you exactly what she expects, and you just have to do it exactly that way. I was worried because I tend to be an arguer, but I actually learned a lot from her and breezed through 3rd semester clinicals. Parkland does love her and she does know her stuff. Don't talk crap about her where anyone who works there can hear you because she knows EVERYONE! lol. Good luck Spill! You can do it!

Has anyone heard of the Parkland SNAP (Student Nurse Assistance Program)? You work part-time as a Student Nurse and they pay you $2550 per semester - for each semester you must commit to 6 mos of work at Parkland upon graduation.
Just trying to decide if it would be a good thing to do? I dont graduate until May 09 and really cannot make a decision on where/or what dept I want to work in?
They told us about it during our TB mask fitting...it seems like a pretty good deal. I guess it seems to boil down to whether you like working at Parkland or not. I know some nurses there that would never work anywhere else, and I know some that have done clinicals there would never want to return. I liked it, in general, but I feel like the nurses at some of the other hospitals have really taken more time and been more helpful.

I am loving my clinical at Parkland. I love the floor I am on also. This has been my best clinical yet! The nurses have been outstanding- the best I've met so far. I think it really makes a difference being at a teaching hospital.
Also, I am seriously considering working here- the people are great. I am amazed at how organized most things are with it being such a big hospital- and a county one at that.
I'm impressed, can you tell?
