Hello everyone...
I took my Across LifeSpan 3 yesterday and failed . I was sort of surprised because I put so much time into studying. This is the second test I failed after passing 8 tests with Bs. Honestly, I am baffled, not sure what I am doing wrong so suddenly...:icon_roll
I talked with a friend about it who had to take the boards twice before becoming a doctor and he said I might have to think about "how to take a test"...He also said that if I am too emotional about the test I could be reading into the questions too much and not keeping it simple.
I am not going to give up but I am sure tired. I am afraid of taking anytime off in fear of losing what I had already spent so much time studying.
I had scheduled all my tests 10 months ago, it was the only way I was going to study and keep motivated. I am supposed to take my next test "transition to professional nurse" in December. I figure why not just take it because I can't take the two failed tests for 60days. Yet, I am wondering if I should keep studying Lifespan 2 and 3 and forget transition to pro RN...
I had planned on being done by December and hopefully apply for CPNE in Jan...now my plans have changed and I just have to accept it and move on...can't say it didn't hurt my pride though ...
Thanks for listening...
HAPPY TURKEY DAY to everyone!!!!

I failed the CPNE the first time. Talk about an expensive ego blow!
You probably overthink tests. I do very well on multiple choice, maybe because I DO go with my gut and stick to the answer that leaps out at me first.
Relax. Don't even think about any of this until Monday. Enjoy your turkey day and weekend and then get back to it.
Take transition as scheduled. Keep reviewing the other, and look at the results to see where you were weak.

I agree with Sue ... keep transitions as scheduled. It's so different from the other exams, so maybe it'll be a nice break for you. I'm sorry you weren't successful this time, but I'm glad you're still in the game!! Happy Thanksgiving. *hugs*

I know exactly how you feel! I failed 2 test(HD2 and Transitions). It really hurt but I kept going. I finished all the test in less that 7 months(6mons. 24 days). I am going Utica to take the CPNE Dec 5-7 which is next week! Don't give up you WILL do it!
PS. Don't sleep on transitions to professional nursing. I thought it was a very hard test. Everyone is different but its not easy.

You have several successful test passes under your belt. I would not let this glitch get too much attention. Just reschedule when you are able and start a new study plan. Now that you have seen the test, you have a better idea of what to expect and how to prepare. You will be waiting on a CPNE date before you know it. Hang in there.
THANK YOU for the replies!
I had felt a little silly posting my tests failings but now you guys so inspire me. What a great group!!!
I will do it!!!!
Good luck to those taking the CPNE and those who are still doing the concepts...
And congrats for those who are RNs now and staying with us to help us out...just awesome!

this is my trouble right here. i critically thought out the scenario
until i either solved the problem or came to a solid conclusion. you must take the question at face value and not rationalize and critical think it to death. :wink2:
.he also said that if i am too emotional about the test i could be reading into the questions too much and not keeping it simple.

when I took my tests I took them as diagnostic but accidently passed all of them. when I booked my cpne I budgeted it twice, so when I went to take it I didnt have the pressure and wasnt anxious anad scared and did well so I didnt have to take it a 2nd time. If you plan on taking it twice it will decrease the pressure and you will do fine. one thing about the cpne is know the critical elements backwards forwards upside down. besure to check the IV access with in a minute or 2 of getting in the pt care situation. watch your speed in giving am care. and when you do your dressing change be sure to dispose of properly, find out the policy of where you are doing the cpne (hospital policy) if you arent sure of a med, look it up they wont frown on that. if you dont know what to do a particular moment, wash your hands wash your hands wash your hands and then wash your hands, they wont penalize you for washing too much but will flunk you if you should have washed your hands and didnt, so be cautions of this.
