Eastern Michigan University (EMU) Fall 2014 Applicants

Published

Hello all,

Who else is applying in May for Fall 2014 admission? Let's keep each other up to date! On the new points system, if my semester finishes as planned, I will have 465/500 points. Good luck to everyone!

I'm so confused about the pysch lab, I took the class because I was told it could give you more points 4 credit hours instead of 3 for psychology. But then when I was filling out the app there was no place to insert the lab grade. I called the nursing office and the lady said oh the lab doesn't count just the class?????? This didn't make sense because I was told by a nursing advisor that the lab did improve your score and I should take it. Anyone else know anything about this. I'm curious to see what happens being that nothing was on the application for the lab portion.

My only advice is don't listen to the academic advisors. Half of the time they give out the wrong information.

From what I've heard and seen, the lab portion didnt give anyone an advantage versus just the lecture.

The cutoff means the minimum score that they'll accept for admission. None of us know any of this information for certain so.. until things get mailed out etc, we shouldn't be saying who does and/or doesn't do what & what we know! This point system is completely new so they're in the dark just like we are... we can't change anything now so let it ride out.

Yeah the advisers call it a cut-off too. I'm just hoping the scores on this thread represent the over-achievers!

Agreed lol! I thought I was one of those over-achievers because I have a 4.0 but being a transfer student made me lose 50 POINTS towards admission. That hurts me SO bad! I would've been a shoo-in if I took all of my prereqs at EMU. I would have 483 points!!! Instead, I have 433. It's really not fair.

Again, I am saying that there isn't a minimum threshold as much as there is a top-down acceptance. New points or not, that is how they have always ranked people. I just think that saying there's a "cut off" above which everyone gets in is misleading or misunderstanding. It's the top 80 scores. As I said above, there could be 80 people with 500 points who get in.

I have June 20th as the very latest that we'll get the letters, and my phone countdown app says that's only 19 days from now! Some people in past years got theirs as early as the 11th! The closer it gets, the more nervous I become. I've read the past student handbooks and browsed the sections of nursing classes in the fall. I feel like I'm walking in circles.

Omg I've literally done every single thing you have lol! I think we're obsessed. ;)

I'm just gonna enjoy my summer vacation from school either way. Lmao. This is the first time Ive had a break from school that's been longer than 2 weeks, in over 2 years. ;) Regardless of point cut off's, its whoever has the most points out of 500 points. You calculate your points on the application, but its them who go through your application, recalculate the points to make sure they are correct & you get what you get. I could have put anything on that app to give me 500 points & it would have accepted it. Its the university that will do the final calculation of points & they will have the final say. Whatever happens, happens. :)

I'm trying to enjoy too, Sarah! It's hard. I want to know but I don't want to waste essentially a full month of summer wishing the days away :) I'm going to clean my house top to bottom and organizing my life so that I can (hopefully) make a smooth transition.

I had the best weekend with my husband, kids, parents, siblings, nieces & nephews! So happy (yet, weird feeling!) to not have to worry about rushing home to homework. I can stay and relax at BBQ's, bonfires & softball games with my daughters & not feel guilty about it because I need to be at home studying. My stress levels have dropped considerably. Enjoying it now because our lives are gonna be so much more complex & hectic come Fall. More than ever compared to the last 5 years doing pre-requisites! I can't wait though! Ive worked very hard to be where I am now. :)

Just called the nursing office and the woman said that acceptance/denial letters will be mailed out late next week!!!
