Earning master's degree online

Published

Specializes in EMERGENCY.

Any advice/ information on how to apply for master's degree online. I am an Emergency Nurse working full time, I think online learning will be the best option for me to achieve master's degree without attending classroom sessions. Is it possible to take online education from a U.S. based College/ University even I am from U.K.? Any information/ advice regarding this topic will be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

My question is: Is it worth doing?

The ones I have checked on want like around $20,000 and the program last about 18 months, that is if you go full time online.

Which ones are charging 20k?

The ones I've researched are charging around 35-40K for the entire MSN program online!!!

I believe it was University of Phoenix. they wanted 450 or 500 bucks per semester hour and it took 39 hours to complete.

Looked at Kaplan Univ. and it was like 350 per hour, Don't know how many hours they want.

I earned a MBA in Healthcare Management online. I loved it. I also am not a "drag to class" person. I chose the MBA program because I found all the MSN programs boring. Unless you want to teach, which I don't, a grad degree is a grad degree as long as it is in the healthcare field. Most online programs are dual degree now. My son is earning a MSN with a concentration in Education. Check out four-year colleges and universities, most have good online programs now, and may be a little cheaper. Also check on tuition assistance, most good hospitals will pay for at least a portion of your tuition.

I have looked into a masters in education online...for about 165 a credit hour...and a co-worker just finished her FNP online...paid about 1800 a semester!

You may look into Western Governors University.

The tuition looks reasonable and it's at your own pace. I'm thinking of getting my MBA or MSN there in a couple years.

The state schools will have lower tution charges in general (especially your home state).

Many of the online universities are 'for profit' companies, and they are in the business to make money. Their tuition will likely be higher.
