that really helps. Yeah thats what she said ...she told me when he told her she was so mad that she just went in there and said I need to be checked for everything that I can be checked for she said that the NP did a pap smear and then she did some swabs or cultures and then she had blood work drawn

Yeah..thats why I am trying to learn a little more about it because like I said I dont know much and Its not "really" that I am saying that she shouldnt be with somebody she loves just because they have an std its because she told me that she really loves him but Its been hard for her to think about being intimate with him bc of the situation and she was asking me what I thought...she was also really concerned bc she wants to have kids and didnt know how that would be possible if they always use protection. thanks everyone ..this really helps!

thanks for the info! Im not sure I did mention the vaccine to her though. So i guess thats where shes getting the whole insemination from if you cant get it from semen or lady partsl fluid...only skin to skin transmission

So i just found out that my best friend is engaged to a guy that has genital warts ...they had only been dating for about 3 or 4 months when she found out (because supposedly thats when he went to the clinic and found out that he had it) they had already had unprotected sex she went to be checked and her test all came back negative. I thought that this would be her breaking and point and that she would leave him but she said she really does love him but she is just too scared to have sex with him I dont see how it will ever work ...I looked it up ...dont really know that much about it myself ...i dont really know anything to say to help her ...she just says that once they get married that they will use protection and that she heard that if they wanted to have kids that she could prevent getting the warts by undergoing insemination ...is that right ..I told her that she could still get the warts even if they do use protection and that she may want to look into the insemination a little further to see if thats accurate ...it doesnt make sense to me..anybody have any info that I can pass along to her?

I actually had to do this yesterday...I agree with that your policy ..thats not even a policy at our hospital, it just makes me feel better i would just set the BP to take q5mins
  7. Have a question to those of you who work in the ER.. do you hang blood on a patient without it being on a pump even when the patient isnt THAT critical ...What about antibiotics?? Just wanted to ask in school we always learned to put things like that on a pump but I have yet to see that where I work I always try to put my antibiotics on a pump but I have yet to hang blood. another question can you have multiple antibiotics hanging on a patient at one time I generally let one completely finish before hanging the other and if you have normal saline infusing into a patient with an antibiotic do you hang the ns or antibiotic as the primary? I have also seen nurses put the antibiotic on a pump and the piggy back the normal saline without it being on the pump because on our pumps if you need your saline to run in Bolus then it will not do it on concurrent
  8. To those of you who are Nurse Practitioners why did you decide to become a NP rather than a Physicians Asst and vice-versa? Can one do more than the other? Does one make more than the other? Does one require you to go to school longer ( or is one any harder) than the other? I am just confused ...in reading up on both of them they kinda sounded the same, so I just wanted to ask those of you who are already there! Thanks in advance for any information that you can provide me!

  10. LOL..."General Hospital"... you are so right, and to think that people think that kind of drama only exsist on TV! You know what is so crazy to me...we as nurses are suppose to be caring, yet SOMETIMES we can allow ourselves to be so mean! I know that the "work" itself is stressful enough you shouldn't have to deal with rude co-workers on top of that! If you don't feel comfortable with the orientation period, I would either talk to your director or get the heck outta dodge...you worked too hard to get where you are. If you decide to stick it out, just keep reminding yourself why you are there ...(I have had to do this myself...so I know where you are coming from) just think of it this way...IF you think that they already think you are "stupid" or aren't picking things up as quick as THEY think you should, then what do have to lose now? They already are thinking it so just continue to pray (or whatever makes you feel more at peace) and go to work, give it your all and when you feel like you have it together THEN go somewhere else and get a fresh start...that way you aren't leaving one hospital while you still don't feel comfortable with your skills and going to another hospital and risking being in the same situation! Good Luck to you...and I will pray for you! Just remember practice makes perfect...I don't know of many nurses that came right out of school graduated experts!
