Duquesne University Accelerated Nursing Program class of 2015

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I just got the wonderful news that I was accepted into Duquense's accelerated program yesterday!!! It was my first choice so I am rather excited. I start August of 2014! Anyone been through the program that can offer any advice? Anyone else applied or recently got accepted? I would love to see who my future classmates are : )

Hi, I just got accepted to Duq 2nd degree program as well starting Aug 2014, and I am from Philadelphia as well! I just got a studio you should look into Allegheny center apartments if you have a car..they are really cheap compared to the other apartments I saw..we should def meet up!

For all the second degree nursing students attending in Aug 2014, we should try to meet up once school starts..from reading all the reviews..I feel like it'll be best to help eachother out through the program! Im really nervous to start but excited too! I'm living off campus but I wouldn't mind staying late on campus to study late, etc. I'm moving from the Philadelphia area, so I don't know anyone in Pittsburgh, but I would love to meet you guys and set up a time to meet.

If you can message me my email is [email protected] =)

Hey all!

Any thoughts on the following?

-Do we all have the same schedule? I noticed for all of my classes there were 98 (if I recall correctly) seats filled. I know originally the program was intended for 60 or 70 students; however, when I saw the class roster, via the mentor email list posted on DORI, I noticed that there were far more than 70 students listed- and actually more than 98, so either way it doesn't add up.

-We were emailed a flyer for Duquesne's general orientation. Are we expected to go to that? Or just to our program-specific orientation? I have emailed to ask about that but have not gotten a response.

-What is everyone planning to use for class in terms of a tablet? I like having a digital stylus so I don't think I will be using an ipad

I believe we all have the same classes, I was talking to a previous student from last years class and they did say that our class is going to be much bigger.

The school suggested a mini ipad for clinicals and for our ebooks..I haven't purchased it yet but I think I will. I haven't ever studied via ebooks for I am kinda nervous in how I will adapt my study habits through them. Any suggestions from the previous class?

Not sure about the general orientation but I know for sure that we have to attend the one for the nursing school, I believe that is the 22nd?

I tried to add myself to the facebook group, but it didn't allow me, could you see if you got my request?

I believe I am going to get an ipad as well.. does anyone else's schedule have two classes at the same time and same day? I wasnt sure if that was normal or they messed up on my schedule

bp0323- Is there a facebook group?

I contacted the school. They did accept more students this year but those students will be split into two separate class schedules which works with the new curriculum. So we will not all be in the classroom at the same time.

Hey the facebook group is - Duquesne University 2nd Degree Nursing 2015

I think its a better way to talk to the class, so I would suggest everyone to join it =)

I called the school yesterday about the conflict, they said there was a mix up and they are working on fixing it.

Basically we will have classes MWF and clinicals T,Th

Hey--

Ok.....took my final today in Stats. I am now officially a Duquesne student. Just wanted to say hello to all and I hope to be chatting, hanging out and even having a few beers with fellow students (assuming we have the time!).

Mike.

For all you guys going back and forth on tablets-- I believe the coursework (ie. readings) is delivered through iPads, so please check before you do anything. I already have all the books, etc. and it was sent to my iPad mini.

If you don't mind my asking what was your GPA and did u do any volunteering?

I have been accepted to the ABSN at Duquesne for the Fall 2015 start. I was wondering what y'all thought now that you have been in Duquesne ASBN program for awhile now? I'm a little nervous about the previous comments, so I was wondering what the Fall 2014 class was thinking about the program & new curriculum now. Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

So I really don't like to be negative but this program isn't the best. They jumped from 60 students to 160 students. This is keeping us from a preceptorship, which is a big deal. Classes are long and boring and pointless. If you do not learn well on your own you will fail. They read everything straight from the pp slides. So for the money being spent, you are definitely being short changed. If this is your only option definitely do it but if you have other options go that route. If you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask.

I'm interested in applying for the online class for RN-BSN. I would like to get some input from someone who is enrolled in the online classes.
