Duquesne Second Degree BSN - Class of 2017

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm happy to say I was recently accepted into Duquesne University's second degree BSN program beginning in August 2016. But I have been doing my research on reviews of this program and throughout this forum, and it seems that there are quite a few people with negative comments. I heard that the program has been changed and improved in the last year.

So I am curious - recent graduates of this program, honestly, what was your experience like? Would you recommend it? And if not, what didn't you like about it?

Thanks

The program is split into 2 sections and you have classes with your entire section so it's about 60-70 people. We do have 1 class this semester that is both sections

Hey everyone! Has anyone found housing?? Does anyone roommate? I'll be moving there from Jersey and it will be nice to have a roommate from the same classroom. Any suggestions where to find affordable housing?

Thanks for the info. You pay $6000 per person or the $6000 is split btw you 4? Do I call the admissions office to find out about housing? I'll be moving there from NJ and I'm really nervous about finding affordable housing.

That's per person but it's for 12 months and we don't pay any utilities or for laundry and all the apartments are furnished. Duquesne's website has a number for housing they would be able to give you all the info! Pittsburgh is pretty reasonable as far as housing prices I think

Hey everyone, I just received my letter of acceptance for Duquesne's Second Degree BSN. I'm trying to make a decision and I've read some other threads and have seen that some people complain about the grading scale, professors, etc. I was wondering if anyone has heard or spoken to anyone about this? Also I live in Florida and want to take a visit. For the people who went to the information sessions for accepted students do you know if there will be anymore of them? Congrats to everyone on getting in!

I'm a student in the program right now. The grading scale does take getting used to, but it's similar to other nursing programs. The school of nursing has their own grading scale : 92-100 A 84-91 B 74-83 C. You need atleast a 74 final grade to pass any class. There's no extra credit and they don't round final grades and there isn't + - it's just A B C

Thanks definitely good to know! What is your opinion on the professors? Do they make themselves available to student outside of class, how are their lectures stuff like that?

There's some professors we have that are awesome and I really like and others not as much. They almost all have set office hours or you can email them to set up other times, I've never had a problem with it. If you need extra help there's also tutoring within the school of nursing from students who have taken the classes I actually go to them a lot! Most of our classes are 2-4 hours so they can be really long and boring depending on the class. I try to get work done during some of them and we always get a couple breaks or sometimes we're done early. Some classes are attendance based and some aren't, but a lot of them we have weekly quizzes so that students will go.

i just received my acceptance! yayy:)

Hi guys, Ive been accepted into the program also. Im looking for a roommate. I also just joined the Facebook page. Im so excited. quick question because I didn't get to make it to the information session since I live in Georgia. How are you guys paying for the program?? I do not want money to be a problem because I would want to attend the school.

Congrats on the acceptance. I know I have been saving as much money as I can for spending money during the program and then plan on taking out loans or getting a few scholarships if possible.
