Hi everyone,
I'm happy to say I was recently accepted into Duquesne University's second degree BSN program beginning in August 2016. But I have been doing my research on reviews of this program and throughout this forum, and it seems that there are quite a few people with negative comments. I heard that the program has been changed and improved in the last year.
So I am curious - recent graduates of this program, honestly, what was your experience like? Would you recommend it? And if not, what didn't you like about it?
Thanks

Hi, I was also accepted and I think I'm going! I'm looking for more info too. I might be going to the accepted students thing this Friday. Looking to talk to people that were in it or are also thinking about this year!

I've also been accepted! What do you guys think of this program? I have read lots of negative reviews about the professors and curriculum in general. I can't decide between going here or Drexel. However, Duqesene is rated 75th nursing school and Drexel is 90.
Well I am going to the accepted student day this Friday, I will let you guys know how it is!
Yes please let us know what you think of their program and the area! Their NCLEX passing score has been high 80's which makes me worried. Drexel has had 97% of people pass their NCLEX, even though its rated lower. I wonder why that is.
Where did you hear that the nclex passing rate is 80? That worries me, I haven't heard that. I'll let you know how it goes Friday.
type in "nclex passing rate duquesne" and the first link that pops up should be a pdf you can download. on there it shows you all the schools in PA and their first time passing rate. and overall passing rate. in 2014, 143/166 passed oh god.

Hi! I have also been accepted and I am really excited to find out more information. I am from Arizona and will be attending the information session in February! I would love any feedback from the first info session, or from previous students! I've never been to Pennsylvania, so I'm interested in learning more about the area as well! Thanks!
Hi everyone. I went to the accepted students event last night. It was good, there were only about 10 people there though... I'm guessing more will be at the February one. It was informative; the simulation labs are all very new and nice and it almost seems like a mini hospital you're practicing in. It sounds like we would be in classes 3 days a week then either clinical or simulation the other 2 days a week, pretty much 8-4 ish every day. They talked a lot about support services they offer and the faculty seemed very friendly. The entire second degree class is split into two groups and you move around with that group. The buildings I saw are nice and modern, the campus is very integrated into downtown Pittsburgh, and I like that it's just a 10 minute walk from some cooler parts that I like, such as Point Park and Market square. I personally want to live in an apartment where I could maybe walk to classes? Not sure how reasonable that is.
If you guys want to know anything else about the meeting let me know!
Also, does anyone want to make a fb page yet? I'm not even 100% decided on Duquesne but it's a good way to talk to people too.
Also, they said last year the NCLEX passing rate was 97%. Which is great.
i defn think we should make a FB page! but did they say from when to when we would have classes the 3 times a week? did you get to hear from current second degree students? reading previous threads i have heard that ppl didnt like the program set up/professors, so i wanna hear from students in it now since they defn have changed their layout if there nclex passing rate went up from their previous years.
Yes we heard from one current student and one that graduated last year. The current girl said its a busy day but that once you get in the routine of it it gets a lot better. She seemed very happy and so did the alumni. As for classes 3 days a week, it sounds like classes are long.. Like 3 hours. And you have breaks throughout the day and move with your group. Sounds like it's all day, just like the clinical/simulation lab. I would expect that with any accelerated program though.
