Duquesne Second Degree BSN - Class of 2017

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm happy to say I was recently accepted into Duquesne University's second degree BSN program beginning in August 2016. But I have been doing my research on reviews of this program and throughout this forum, and it seems that there are quite a few people with negative comments. I heard that the program has been changed and improved in the last year.

So I am curious - recent graduates of this program, honestly, what was your experience like? Would you recommend it? And if not, what didn't you like about it?

Thanks

Thank you so much for the information! I would love to get a FB group started as well. I am going to look in February when I come, to look at the housing options around the campus. I would like to live in an off-campus house/apartment as well if it's not too expensive. Let me know if you start the Facebook group, I would love to join!

I'm not really sure how to start a fb group... Does anyone else want to do it?

Yes I can create the group, I just have to add friends to the group before I can create it. If I add you on FB then I'll start it!

I sent you a private message!

hi can you post the link for the group once its made! thanks :)

Here is the link! It is a closed group so you might have to request to be added! https://www.facebook.com/groups/113943762310814/

Hey my name is Luke, I currently go to the University of Pittsburgh so I live here and I will be attending Duquesne next year. If anyone has any doubt about Pittsburgh and whether it's a fun time, i promise you, you'll never run out of things to do. I only applied to nursing school's in Pittsburgh if that tells you how much I love it. My friend is currently in the program and loves it. She says it's a lot of work but she still has plenty of time for social life and to go to the gym and things like that. If you're committed and looking for living I would suggest looking in south side flats rather than downtown. Southside is full of 20 something's has a street of 50 or so bars, restaurants, and convenience stores, also It's about a 10 minute walk from Duquesne's campus. Another option if you have a car or wanted to take the bus (which is free with a Duquesne student ID) would be Shadyside, similar to south side just more upscale and a lot farther from campus. Downtown is more financial, and absurdly expensive. Hope this helps, Looking forward to meeting you guys next year.

Hey there! I am just starting the application process for the Fall 2016 cohort. Does anyone have any tips? I am still completing my prerequisites this coming spring, but have decided to apply now and get all my transcript sent in as well as my CV/resume. Did you guys send in any letters of rec? I know it says they aren't needed, but it doesn't say not to send any. Thanks!

I didn't send any letters no. This application was easy and straight forward in my opinion, I would just make sure to get it in soon because I believe it is rolling admissions?

Also you should all join the fb group posted above!

Wow thank you so much for all your information!! I have been nervous about moving across the country but everything sounds fun and great!! And good to know that your friend has time to do something other than studying! I look forward to meeting you in August!

Just something else I am thinking about. I am between here and another school. The biggest downfall for Duquesne for me is the cost. At the information session they basically gave us an estimate of $50,000. What do you guys think of this? Is it worth it? Plus I want to go on to NP soon after, so that's a lot of money in a short period of time. I'm having a really hard time finding any scholarships to apply for that are for 2nd degree bachelors like this one. Any tips? What do you guys think?

Hello everyone! Just wanted to update and let you guys know that I received my acceptance letter earlier this week. My application was complete around the first week of Jan, so they are deciding really quickly! Good luck to everyone and please join the Facebook group posted above í ½í¸ƒ
