Duke University ABSN Fall 2018

Published

I just wanted to start a thread for prospective students hoping to start Duke's ABSN program in the Fall of 2018! Feel free to leave any questions or background info!

Has anyone who heard back about interviews for the HEA program for Duke ASBN fall 2018 class ?

Specializes in Primary Care.

@HopefulNP123T, Invites for the HEA II interviews were given out the first week or so of February. These interviews were then completed by the 22nd..í ½í¸¬ I, too, was also scared about the interviews thing because the email sent by Ben was misleading (saying last week of January hearing back). However, it seemed as though only 50 people were given interviews!

@Roxanne95 or anyone who might know, does that mean those 50 people that got interviews for the HEA II program have priority over the rest of us for the ABSN program? Or are we all on an even playing field still?

I was under the impression that the HEA II selection process is completely separate from the admissions process; getting accepted into one, doesn't mean you'll get accepted to the other.

I was too, but in the webinar ("View the HEA II Informational Webinar" link on The Health Equity Academy II | Duke School of Nursing), they said you have to be accepted to the ABSN program to be a part of HEA. That's what made me think those 50 applicants have an edge.

I was under the same impression too, but in the HEA II webpage webinar, they said you have to be accepted into the ABSN program to be a part of the HEA. That's what made me think those 50 applicants had an edge. My thinking then was, if HEA II interviews were given out and because you have to be accepted to the ABSN program in order to do the HEA, then those 50 students at the very least are strongly being considered by the school.

I tried posting the link where I found the webinar here, but that comment is being reviewed by a moderator because they thought it was spam.

Sorry, I didn't mean to stress everyone out. It's hectic with all these schools decisions coming up. Anywho, best of luck to us!

That's interesting information. It does make me wonder. With only 75ish people accepted, I wonder if 50 of those slots are already reserved for HEA.

I doubt it. In HEA website, there only 10 students in the pictures. So let's say it's 10 out of 75 for HEA. That leaves ~65 spots for the rest of us?

But then there are the other 40 who had interviews. Regardless, I can't wait to hear from admissions!

True! I didn't realize 10 was the final number. Yes, I know the anticipation is killing us all!

Duke days should be the end of March. Decisions are posted right after the second Duke Days.

No they won't have an edge. They are simply the people that met the requirements for the program who chose to apply. There are a lot more people who applied to the absn program which did not apply for HEA. They probably score each interviewee then once decisions are made for absn, they go back through their highest scoring interviewees.

If Duke Days are at the end of March, hopefully we will be receiving invitations or save-the-dates soon
