Hi everyone. I haven't found a thread for this topic yet, so I decided to start one. Who else submitted their application on Feb 1st for the various new grad positions at Duke?

I believe all CNI (Clinical Nurse I)/new grads start at $20.47 at duke.

thank you and does this program require a bsn or is an asn acceptable?

ADN is ok but BSN is preferred and expected within a time frame from my understanding.

I am awaiting graduation for my BSN and was denied for a new grad position however because they chose a BSN prepared nurse instead.

Does anyone have any recommendations for where to stay that is relatively close to the medical center? Can I take public transportation to the hospital? I am coming from Boston for an interview, and I don't know the area at all! Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

The school of nursing is next to the hospital and they provided us a list of hotels. Most offered a discount and shuttle to the hospital. I've attached a link so maybe it will be helpful.

It may depend on the unit, I know many ADNs who have been hired in the past year for both SNIP and GEMS. Granted all of them are local; they went to Watts owned by Duke or Durham Tech.

Specializes in orthopedic/trauma, Informatics, diabetes.

I am ADN that did not go to Watts or Durham tech. When I was hired, there was guy from Pitt County; I went to school in Johnston County. I was AMAZED at the number of ADN nurses there. I think the numbers are 60/40 for BSN/ADN. Don't let that keep you from applying.

The hospital, where the interviews are, is not close to the school of nursing. The Hospital is on Erwin Rd and there is a hotel within a block on either Fulton or Elba (I can't remember). Ask the recruitment office for suggestions. They are really great, really helpful.

Am I missing something? The first hotel listed in the link appears to be the same hotel you are referring to. Those are the same hotels recommended to visitors. The shuttle provided by the hotel would drop her off where she needed to be. The school of nursing is a very short walk (less than 5 min) to Duke North.

I agree. Fulton or Elba Streets are an easy walk (5 minutes or under) to the School of Nursing.

Then I don't know where the school of nursing is!!! The hospital is right there at the end of Fulton @ Erwin. That is Duke North. Which building is the CON in? There is the Eye Center to the right with research behind it. To the left is Childrens and Duke South. Then down the road to the left is DMP and ED. (you don't realize how impressive it is that I know this much LOL-very geographically challenged)

Had to go look it up LOL The CON isn't really Duke North. But I didn't realize it was so close to the ED. I go to Duke South for a research study. The hotel on the corner of Elba and Fulton is probably the closest. If you walk down Erwin past the VA for about 10 minutes, there is a bunch of food. I feel comfortable walking around there-maybe not too late at night to the food, but to parking lots, no prob.

The Duke SON is near the corner of Irwin and Trent, a little further down Trent towards Duke South. "Duke South" is considered

the collection of clinics, Student Health and associated facilities at the end of Trent Dr. I was just in there today getting my employee health stuff taken care of and was wondering "How in the world am I going to navigate this?" It's a maze distinguished

only by the 20 different color elevators.

What others call "Duke North" is the older hospital part at the corner of Fulton and Erwin. The Duke Medical Pavilion is kind of behind the main hospital. It's so shiny it hurts my eyes.

A map can be found here: Duke University Maps.

Be careful crossing Erwin Rd. from the garages and Hock Plaza, and even up by the SON. I've seen and heard of countless people get hit on foot or bike, because of the amount of panicked people coming off 147 to go to the ED, by visitors who don't know

where they're going, and by tired healthcare workers.
