Hi everyone. I haven't found a thread for this topic yet, so I decided to start one. Who else submitted their application on Feb 1st for the various new grad positions at Duke?

Am I correct in thinking this will be the floor you float to if needed?
Yes and no. For your first year, after orientation you can float/work overtime on your sister floor. After you are there a year, they can float you anywhere. I have not been a year yet, but I am nervous to go to other units. I am told they are usually really nice to floats. I hope that is the case

So, I am having a REALLY difficult time finding housing. Are there any apartments that you would suggest? With how our salary is, the apartment costs are exponential
One friend lived at Colonial Village-Deerfield for several months while she and her husband were building their house. You could also look at places closer to Southpoint mall.

Also near Colonial Village - Deerfield (across the street) is The Forest Apartments. They have furnished apartments if you're just needing a place to crash for a few months until you get a better idea of the area. That's the route I went with until I figure out what parts of the area I would like to live in.

Does anyone know if HR can pay for the flight out to interview? I can't afford it :/ Any advice would help! Thank you!
They will not pay for you flight for interview. I asked them prior to committing to the interview.
Other hospital systems do, but not Duke. Also, remember there are hundreds of new grads applying to each position, and usually employers only pay for flights for interviews if you're bringing something to the table that they really want.
Try Carolinas Health Care system - they do offer flights for interviews (not sure about for new grads, but they offer for experienced nurses), maybe try to plan an interview for the same time as Duke and see if you can do both interviews at once?
Good luck MissRN2013!

Hi! I am a new grad and I'll be flying out to NC from San Diego, CA next week to interview for a position in the cardiothoracic surgical step down unit! I would love if anyone could share any words of advice on the interview process/what to expect! I would love to be given the opportunity to start my career with Duke! Thanks so much in advance!

I just applied about 3 days ago for the 2014 Duke new grad program for the birthing center...ldr post partum position.
The deadline was yesterday.
Does anyone know how long it will take for them to process my application and let me know if I have an interview or not?
I have checked the status like 20 times today! lol. so anxious to see if they would consider me for the position.
Thanks

In my experience it took maybe a week to hear that my resume had been forwarded to the hiring manager (you get a pretty generic email) and then the interview invite came maybe a week after that (email from nurse recruitment). I know some units are faster though- it just depends how on the ball they are! Hope that helps!
